For some people going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here’s a quick summary of what you can expect at Hill Street.
First of all we aren’t super-spiritual beings; we all had a ‘first day’ at church:. You’ll find we are a friendly bunch so if you don’t understand something please just ask. Everyone is welcome, whatever their age or experience. You will find both our church and our welcome warm.
We start our service at 10.30am with a welcome and a few short notices, then we begin our worship of God together. Our service lasts for about an hour. Our worship is evangelical – we use classic hymns and modern songs to praise God, led variously by a music group and singers or our organist. Hearing a passage from the Bible and prayer are both important to us, as is the sermon when the worship leader helps us to study what God is saying to us today through his word, the Bible. Some parts of worship can be solemn and moving – others will be full of laughter and delight!
We love to sing, but there aren’t lots of books to handle – any words you need will be up on a big screen.
We run a creche for babies, and parallel sessions for children and young people who leave us for their own sessions after the first 20 minutes or so most Sundays, though on the first Sunday each month we share together in worship designed to involve all ages.
Holy Communion, when we share bread and wine together in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ, is the climax of our service on the third Sunday in each month. Everyone is welcome to be a part of this, and we gladly welcome all who call Jesus their Lord to share the bread and wine with us.
We serve refreshments (Fairly Traded, of course!) in the hall behind the church building after every service: do stay for a chat!
Our aim is that whether you are just looking into Christianity for the first time or have been a Christian for many years that you should be encouraged and inspired by our morning together. We hope that in the course of it everyone will draw closer to God. Â
