Who we are
Our Vision...
is to look like our Community and Heaven itself.
Our Mission...
Our Redeemer is a church dependant upon prayer and directed by God's Word for the purpose of evangelism, discipleship, worship, fellowship, and service.
Our History...
Our Redeemer was founded in 1866 as one of the early Free Methodist congregations. Free Methodists spoke against slavery, promoted freedom in worship, and taught freedom from measuring your life by what you own. The church held services originally on Villa Street in downtown Elgin. Room to grow was limited so in 1974 land was purchased along route 58 and a new building built in 1978.
Pastor Jeff Suits has been the senior pastor since 1990.
What We Believe...
The sole basis for our belief is the Bible, which is uniquely God inspired, without error, and the final authority on all matters on which it speaks. As the Bible teaches, there is one God, eternally existing in three persons-- Father, Son and Holy Spirit-- each possessing all the attributes of deity.
God created humans to have a relationship with Him, but they defied God by sinfully going their own way. As a result, we need God’s saving grace to end our alienation from God. Salvation comes only through God’s grace and not human effort. Salvation must be received personally by repentance and faith.
Jesus Christ, second person of the Trinity, lived a sinless life on earth and voluntarily paid for our sin by dying on the cross as our substitute. This brought salvation for all who trust in Him alone. He rose from the dead and is the only mediator between us and God. He will return to earth to complete history.
The Holy Spirit draws sinners to Christ and equips believers for personal growth and service to the church. The Spirit’s presence in the believer's life empowers holy living and is the guarantee of eternal fellowship with God.

Our Redeemer Free Methodist Church History
Light of the World
Jesus, the Light of the World, as we celebrate your birth... may we begin to see the world in the light of understanding you give us. As you chose the lowly, the outcasts, and the poor to receive the greatest news the world had ever known, so may we worship you in meekness of heart. May we also remember our brothers and sisters less fortunate than ourselves in this season of giving. Amen.
