Who we are
St. George’s is an Anglican Christian community that is on its own unique and exciting journey with God.
In 2009 we articulated our purpose as a congregation: To Ignite our spirit and faith, embracing opportunities to welcome the ‘hungry’ with our self and means.
This community is a relative newcomer to the part of Canada, having been founded only in the 19th Century. For centuries before that, this place was the home of the Anishinaabek, the aboriginal people of the Owen Sound area. It means “People who live (or mean) well”, or “Spontaneous Beings” created from the divine breath.
We also would like to be known as “people who live well.” We know ourselves as formed by the divine Spirit. We seek to live faithfully and thoughtfully, passionately and generously, in partnership with the wider human and more than human world. This means embracing fully all of our wonderful human gifts while also learning to depend on God.
We are shaping the life of our community (we are always “under construction”!) around 5 key practices adapted from Robert Schnase in his book, Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations:
Building an Hospitable Community.
Celebrating Life in Worship.
Intentionally Developing our Faith.
Reaching out in Mission and Service.
Moving From Grace to Generosity.

Abide in my heart
Come, Lord Jesus, and abide in my heart. How grateful I am to realize that the answer to my prayer does not depend on me at all. As I quietly abide in You and let Your life flow into me, what freedom it is to know that the Father does not see my threadbare patience or insufficient trust, rather only Your patience, Lord, and Your confidence that the Father has everything in hand. In Your faith I thank You right now for a more glorious answer to my prayer than I can imagine. Amen.
