Who we are
Advent Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
We are a congregation that lives it's faith our in the world, boldly proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Worship is the connecting hub for all we do at Advent. It's the place where we are called, gathered, equipped, and sent for service in the community. We worship in-person and we continue with online worship, live-streaming at 9:30 on our YouTube channel.
We invite you to join us for worship! Please don't worry about "what to wear" or "how to act" -- come as you are and join us as we encounter God in Word and Sacrament.
Our Welcome Statement
Advent Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Congregation
"We extend our welcome to people of all races, cultures and colors; to people of all sexual orientation, gender, and gender identity; to people of all ages, background and abilities; to people of every legal, economic, and marital status; and to all those whom the world seeks to separate, divide, or isolate.
We are a community committed to the work of racial equity, bringing justice for all of God's beloveds.
We celebrate your identity as a gift from God, and we welcome you to a diverse community united by our faith. We welcome you to receive God's grace given to all regardless of our worldly successes or failures. Welcome one another therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."
Romans 15:7

Leader Bio:
Pr. Kirby received his first Call to serve Faith Lutheran Church in Bellingham and Camp Lutherwood where he was the Program Director.
The day Mt. St. Helen’s blew up Kirby interviewed to be the pastor of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. It was there through strong lay leadership that Kirby developed a community-based ministry in Renton having been recognized by the Renton Community as Citizen of the Year and Grand Marshal of the Summer Parade. His ministry included a Police/Fire chaplaincy. He also wrote a monthly column in the Renton Reporter.
Kirby describes his time at St. Matthew’s as a wonderful ride where the congregation went from being threatened with foreclosure into a thriving community ministry. It was while in Renton that Kirby partnered with the Synod and Compass Housing to reimagine what was once the site of Renton Lutheran Church into a four-story Veterans Center, housing over 100 Veterans and their families. The ground floor became the site of Luther’s Table, a Coffee / Pub musical venue where the church could meet the community in a more normal setting. Â

Teach us to serve Thee
Teach us, good Lord, to serve Thee as Thou deservest: To give and not to count the cost; To fight and not to heed the wounds; To toil and not to seek for rest; To labour and not ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do Thy will.
