Who we are
We are a mission-minded, community church strategically planted in the Black Oak neighborhood of the city of Gary, IN. This urban community is ethnically diverse and economically impoverished, lending itself to unique opportunities for shining the light of Christ, bringing glory to God.
Mission – In this unique setting we strive to:
1) Fulfill the Great Commission by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, helping the lost to find Christ and helping believers grow in Christ-likeness, while becoming active members in a local church.
2) Fulfill the Great Commandment by loving God, loving each other and loving our neighbors. And in this love…
3) Preach the gospel of the kingdom, seeking to transform our community so that, more and more, it bears the marks of God’s coming kingdom.

Beacon Light Community CRC Service Times
9:00 Prayer Time
9:30 Sunday School
10:30 Worship Service
It was decided that our church would continue to hold off on gathering at the church building for worship services and ministries until April 30th. This date is in keeping with the President's Tuesday press conference, whereby urgent directives were given to the country regarding social distancing. Council will continue to monitor the situation, and will make further decisions when we get near the end of the month.

Beacon Light Community CRC History
Fifteen years ago, in 2002, God laid it upon the heart of Harold Scheeringa, a member at Beacon Light, to build a new church building. The old wood frame structure, erected in 1949, with all of its narrow stairs, was getting extremely difficult for the elderly to manage. Furthermore, the 3000-square foot lower level of the church was always seeping with water, and the sump pumps ran 24/7, 365 days a year. Golf outing fundraisers, held at Gleason Golf Course in Gary, began in 2003. In 2010 drawings were sketched for the construction of a new 9000 square foot, single-story, 15-foot high building. Beacon Light being such a small church, the plans for construction were indeed ambitious, testing our faith. But God would test our faith even further. In 2012 a church in Florida, having heard of our church plans, offered to donate to us a new, steel-frame superstructure (columns, beams and skin) for a 17,000-square foot, two-story church building, 30-feet tall. “Did we want it?” the Florida church asked. After a couple of weeks of earnest prayer, Harold and the Building committee said, “Yes!”
I want to know Thee
Father, I want to know Thee, but my coward heart fears to give up its toys. I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from Thee the terror of the parting. I come trembling, but I do come. Please root from my heart all those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my living self, so that Thou mayest enter and dwell there without a rival. Then shalt Thou make the place of Thy feet glorious. Then shall my heart have no need of the sun to shine in it, for Thyself wilt be the light of it, and there shall be no night there. In Jesus Name, Amen.
