Who we are
Bethel United Methodist Church has a rich history dating all the way back to 1852 when the church was first organized. Bethel church began during the "Brush Arbor Days" of the mid-18 hundreds as the Bethel society. The first church was a log building constructed and named Bethel church in 1852. It was built on two acres of land sold for five dollars to the trustees of Bethel society. The church has faced hardship and challenges throughout many years of changes and new beginnings.

Today the church seeks to grow and revitalize in an ever-changing world were God's love is desperately needed. In 2013 the church began a new effort of reaching out to the growing retirement communities in Monroe and Indian trail. The church remains a beacon of hope rich in historical tradition, with a warm heart that reaches towards the future.

History of Bethel United Methodist Church Monroe

Historical Photos

Father, I want to know Thee, but my coward heart fears to give up its toys. I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from Thee the terror of the parting. I come trembling, but I do come. Please root from my heart all those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my living self, so that Thou mayest enter and dwell there without a rival. Then shalt Thou make the place of Thy feet glorious. Then shall my heart have no need of the sun to shine in it, for Thyself wilt be the light of it, and there shall be no night there. In Jesus Name, Amen.
