Who we are
Cedar United's local history reaches back to the early 1900s with Methodists gathering in a school house and a community hall. The present church hall was the original sanctuary from 1921, with further construction, creating a new sanctuary and adding a kitchen, coming decades later. 1925 was the year of Church Union, when our congregation became part of the United Church of Canada. Over the years, we have been in many partnerships with other United Churches, sharing resources and ministry staff. Currently we have a part-time minister and a group of very active laypeople.
The United Church of Canada (UCC) is a uniquely Canadian denomination, and we have a proud history of leading the way when it comes to affirming the gifts and leadership of women and members of the LGBT+ community, seeking reconciliation with First Nations people, and pursuing relationships with other faith communities. The UCC strives to acknowledge its own past sins (Native Residential schools being a huge one), and to pursue justice and peace.

Cedar United's congregation has changed and grown over the years, though we continue to be a small church where genuine relationship can happen. People here support and encourage one another, as we all seek to follow in the way of Jesus.
