Who we are

Christ United Methodist Church is an open and affirming congregation; therefore, people of all ages, abilities, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, and religions are welcome in our community.

We are committed to creating a space that is welcoming, inclusive, and safe for all.

What we Believe

The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, but every faith community defines the term “disciple” a little bit differently. At Christ United, we believe a disciple is someone who follows Jesus by acting inclusively, serving others, doing justice, and seeking God. We think this message of inclusion and community involvement is what sets our congregation apart from others.

We believe that discipleship is a life-long journey, a destination that we never totally arrive at. As you engage in activities at Christ United and explore our educational resources, you will find that we categorize opportunities into four different stages. Knowing which stage you are at in your discipleship journey will help you identify which opportunities may be best for you.

The United Methodist Faith

United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians. According to our foundational statement of beliefs found in The Book of Discipline, we share many basic affirmations in common with all Christian communities.

Christ United Methodist Church Q&A

Question: What is a worship service like?

Answer: Our 10:00 a.m. worship is what we like to call “Classical.” On Sundays the congregation is accompanied by our pipe organ as we sing songs from the United Methodist Hymnal. We have special musical pieces led by our Brass Ensemble and Glory Ringers bell choir. The service includes prayers, scripture readings, and a message our pastor, Andy Frazier. Services are typically 45-65 minutes long.

Question: What about Holy Communion?

Answer: On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion. All United Methodist Churches celebrate an “open table.” This means that everyone of any age is welcome to receive communion. You don’t have to be a member of our church or any church at all; you should simply seek to find and follow Jesus in your life.

Question: What should I wear?

Answer: First-time guests are curious about what they should wear to church. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in! Some of our church members dress in their Sunday best, but many wear jeans and even shorts in the summertime.

Christ United Methodist Church History

Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln, Nebraska was founded in 1952 as a merger between Emmanuel Methodist Church and Elm Park Methodist Church.

Members broke ground for the new church in April 1953, and the sanctuary was completed and consecrated in June 1954. A new educational unit for the church was added in 1958, and the pipe organ was installed in 1974.

A major addition was built in 1999 that included a new entrance, Great Hall, Family Life Center (gym), kitchen, offices, library, media center, elevator, accessible restrooms, and a renovated parking lot. Since then, use of our building as a community and ministry resource has grown each year and we look forward to continued growth!

The power of Christian prayer Put me to what You will
Lord, I am no longer my own, but Yours. Put me to what You will, rank me with whom You will. Let be employed by You or laid aside for You, exalted for You or brought low by You. Let me have all things, let me have nothing, I freely and heartily yield all things to Your pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You are mine and I am Yours. So be it. Amen.
