Who we are
Statement of Faith
The purpose of this church is to worship God, to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and celebrate the sacraments; to realize Christian fellowship and unity within this Church and the Church universal; to render loving service toward humankind; and to strive for righteousness, justice and peace.
We are strongly affiliated with the United Church of Christ, a denomination which was established by the merger of the Congregational/Christian and the Evangelical and Reformed Churches in 1957. The UCC acknowledges as sole head Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior. It acknowledges as kindred all who share in this confession. Its ecumenical spirit is nourished by Jesus’ prayer, “That they may all be one.” No matter who you are, no matter where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.
The church is congregational in polity, grounded in Scripture, and historically focused on social action. We affirm God’s love for all people, regardless of race, gender, orientation, social standing or ethnicity. Our worship is joyful with a balance of liturgy and informality. We include all ages in our worship and enthusiastically welcome children. Music is a significant part of our celebration. We present a theologically open and moderate/liberal voice in our community. The Scriptures are central to our worship. We use the lectionary for worship themes. The sacrament of communion is celebrated at least once a month, and our table is open to anyone who in faith desires to receive it, whether a member of the church or not.

Leader Bio:
Rev. Rebecca Kemper Poos began her ministry with us in March, 2009, after having served churches of all shapes and sizes in Vancouver BC and Colorado. She moved to Buena Vista with her husband Clarke and son Rocky (now 20). They enjoy a number of hobbies and passions, all focused on being outdoors. They love nothing more then being in the mountains hiking, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, kayaking, exploring Colorado history, and riding bicycles, their motorcycle or horses. Rocky particularly enjoys fishing and collecting rocks and other treasures. The family is rounded out by Clarke’s kids in Florida and some delightful dogs, cats and horses.
Rebecca loves ministry of all kinds. She enjoys encouraging people and churches on their spiritual journey, and has a passion for music and inspiring worship, along with community involvement, and caring for one another in God’s name. She invites you to join in our mission to live out Jesus’ commandments to love our neighbor, ourselves, and to feed, clothe and care for all of creation.
