Who we are

Philosophy of Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church

Our Mission Statement: “To glorify God… by creating a ministry where lives are being transformed through the knowledge of Jesus Christ and that its members are constantly enabled to become more Christ-like.” Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Philippians 3:21; Romans 15:6 and 1 Corinthians 6:20

In order for us to understand all that God has to say about various subjects (Salvation, Discipleship, the Second Coming, Sin, etc.) it is necessary to study the Bible. It will be our goal to study the Bible topically; this type of study is often called systematic theology. We prefer to call this our Philosophy of Ministry. Unfortunately, ministry is an area that many Christians have not studied topically or systematically. As a result, their philosophy of ministry is poorly developed and not well grounded in the Scriptures. It is often nothing more than programs and promotions, with little understanding of underlying biblical principles. These principles are not the final word. They represent a beginning statement of our philosophy of ministry. It is likely that they will be modified and expanded as time goes on.

The Guide for our ministry is the Bible, not human wisdom (Isaiah 55:6-11)

Because the Bible is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), it is the final authority for our faith and practice.

Since the Bible is the final authority, it serves as the ultimate judge as to what we believe as truth; therefore, all experiences and circumstances must be interpreted in the light of what the Scriptures state (John 16:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Corinthians 14:29)

Since the Bible is the final authority and it serves as the ultimate judge, then it should direct our methods of ministry (2 Corinthians 1:12). In other words, the Bible tells us what our ministry is, the message that we are to teach and live by, and it provides the methods of carrying out the ministry that God has given us.

The Focus of our ministry is people, not programs (John 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 2:8).

The Goal of our ministry is to carry our ALL of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8).

We must be actively seeking to win the lost both in our neighborhoods by personal evangelism and abroad through the support of missions programs.

We must seek to encourage those that we see converted to walk the aisles and be baptized.

We must disciple them, by teaching them the Word of God.

The Power of our ministry is God (Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 12:9)

This is the meaning of John 15 in the parable of the vine, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

The Environment for our ministry is the corporate body, not individualism (Romans 12:3-10; Ephesians 4:13-16; 1 Corinthians 1:10; 2 Corinthians 13:11; Philippians1:27; 1 Peter 3:8).

The ministry is not about the Pastor. It is only about one person, that is Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:5)

We are known by the world by our love one for another (John 13:34-35).

Everyone is part of the ministry and must do his/her part (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-31).

God has called some to leadership. A leader is a servant. A leader is committed to making others successful. A leader must feed the flock (2 Peter 5:2-4) and he must equip the saints (Ephesians 4:11-12). A leader must measure up to certain qualifications (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).

Authority and Submission: Because God has given leaders to oversee the Church, those under their authority should submit to their leadership (Romans 13:1-7; Hebrews 13:17).

The Measure of our ministry will be our ability to reproduce ourselves in other (2 Timothy 2:2; 1 Thessalonians 2:1-20).

The power of Christian prayer I am in Thy Presence
Help me, Lord, to remember that Christianity is not to be confined to the church ... nor exercised only in prayer and meditation, but that everywhere I am in Thy Presence.
