Who we are
We are seekers, believers, skeptics and singers — citizens of the secular world drawn to how church links us to the past, even as we seek to reshape it for a better future.
We are people interested in both the intellectual questions of faith and the transcendent power of the sacred, experienced and explored in community. We appreciate the extraordinary gift of an ordinary Sunday service, the opportunity to serve and be served, and the unique role church plays in our individual and public lives; above all, we are humans wrestling with both the theoretical understanding and daily practice of a theology of love.

Leader Bio:
Sharon grew up in rural New Jersey and has served as a healthcare chaplain or pastor in California, Connecticut, and Colorado. Now she gets to live and play in the most beautiful place she could ever dream of surrounded by waves and mountains and fuzzy-mossed giant trees.
At Claremont School of Theology she met her spouse, Jamie Kepros, who serves as Pastor at the Lummi Island Congregational Church, UCC.

First Congregational UCC History
In 1999, we approved a statement marking us as an Open and Affirming congregation resolving to “welcome and affirm every person, without regard to sexual orientation, into the full life, rites, and ministry of our church.”
In 2013, we became a Just Peace church in a declaration encouraging “us as individuals and as a faith community to educate, grow, empower, and spiritually renew ourselves for peace making, doing justice, and practicing sustainability in our families, community and world.”
For over 30 years we have partnered with the Interfaith Coalition, an organization providing services to the homeless.
We remain involved in our community: giving regularly to service organizations, collecting food for the Bellingham Food Bank, and serving at the Community Meal (link to page).
In June 2016, we voted to partner with Northwest Youth Services to provide for homeless youth. We are excited to continue serving God and our community in new and exciting ways in the future. We hope you will be a part of it!

When we stumble...
O Lord our God, Who has called us to serve You in the midst of the world's affairs, When we stumble, hold us; when we fall, lift us up. When we are hard pressed with evil, deliver us. When we turn from what is good, turn us back and bring us at last to Your glory.
