Leader Bio:
Senior Pastor Lee Allen Spight Sr.

With over 50 years of experience, Lee Allen Spight Sr. is the pastor of the Holy Temple COGIC, Superintendent of the Love District in Jurisdiction II of Western New York, and chairman of the Superintendents' Board. He was the first born of Henry and Zelma Spight on October 11, 1940 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Six months later, the family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. He has five siblings.

As a toddler, little Lee Allen woke up early in the morning singing. At 5 years old, he would sneak out of the house, early in the morning, to wait for his dad to get off from work after driving a taxi all night. This was their time together, because his father worked two to three jobs at a time to support the family.

At the age of 7, he would gather friends around and preach to them while standing on a box. Once, when his grandmother told him she wanted to take a picture of him, he posed with his hand in her ear. He thought that meant you were a real preacher.

Pastor Spight received his former education in Memphis, Tennessee. After high school, he entered the US Air Force and served for four years. During his tenure with the Air Force, he played football and worked as an office clerk, which enabled him to take several college courses. When the Lord called him in the ministry, he took religious courses through Memphis Theological Seminary.

For ten years, he worked for the UAW Union and was sent to school for training in Constitution, By-Laws and Parliamentary Procedures. He later used this training with the National COGIC while the late Bishop J. Patterson, Sr. was the Senior Bishop. He also helped to set up the first Constitutional By-Laws for Bountiful Blessings Ministry in Memphis Tennessee, along with Bishop G.E. Patterson.

His first on the job training in the ministry was under the auspices of Bishop J.O Patterson, Sr. He served as his assistant pastor for many years. In fact, it was Bishop Gilbert Patterson who gave him this advice: 'I would love for you to come and work with me, however, if you choose to go and work With Bishop Patterson, you will receive an education in this church, better than any college degree.'

Pastor Spight married Charlotte Jones on June 23, 1963. Bishop Gilbert Patterson was the best man at his wedding. Two wonderful children were born into this union, Cara Jeanine and Lee Allen, Jr.

Lee Allen felt a call into the ministry, in October of 1963. HE was ordained in 1966. The first church he pastured was in Maury City, Tennessee in 1972. In just under two years, he built a new worship center there ... This bricked, air conditioned edifice included living quarters for the pastor and his family, many offices, a baptizing pool, and new furniture throughout. This congregation grew tremendously, during his tenure as pastor. This building, which has received additions renovations, remains there today. Also, he assisted in building a church in Brownsville, Tennessee and was instrumental in choosing the pastor for it. After pasturing for a few months, he was made District Supt. of twelve churches.

In 1974, Pastor Spight was the first Elder to preach a communion message in the International Convocation of the COGIC. Previous to that time, only bishops delivered this message. Following that service, Pastor Spight received five offers to pastor other congregations.

During the 1980's, Pastor Spight worked at the Alden Correctional Facility as a Chaplain. He took many Saints there and conducted Bible study and services weekly.

Pastor Lee Allen Spight Sr. died on August 26, 2022.

God enabled her to write a proposal and present it to the NY State Collegiate Board in Albany, NY so that each person who completed this program would receive 3 hours of college credits. It was accepted. Many used that as a stepping stone to continue their education and one received a PhD and presently, working as an instructor at the University of Buffalo.

Mother Spight says, although blessed with a wonderfully, supportive husband and family who have allowed me to work freely with various civic and professional organizations that were challenging, as well as fulfilling; nothing is as rewarding as her relationship with God while working with His people..   Edit

Holy Temple Church of God in Christ History

In 1924, the late Evangelist Lucy Smith from Chicago came to Buffalo, New York, and conducted a revival on Potter Street. Many souls were saved and baptized in the Holy Ghost. After the revival, the church rented a building at 142 William Street, and it was known as "The Pentecostal Church." In 1934, Eld. T.J. Jennifer became the first pastor of the church, which then had 43 active members. Pastor Jennifer brought the church into fellowship with the Church of God in Christ. After the church had grown and expanded, they moved to a 30-story building at 501 Clinton Street. In 1934, Pastor Jennifer resigned and Overseer W. G. Shipman supervised the church.

Later that same year Eld. E. F. McClellan came from Memphis Tennessee and conducted a three-day revival, and at the end of the revival, the church unanimously elected Eld. McClellan as Pastor. On April 26, 1935 Eld McClellan was installed Pastor of 501 Clinton Street. After a revelation from God, he renamed the church Holy Temple Church Of God In Christ.

In 1940, Pastor McClellan and the congregation of Holy Temple bought a building at 96 Spruce Street, a former firehouse. As the church continued to grow, a larger edifice was needed for worship. The purchased site would be 572 Clinton Street, on the corner of Madison and Clinton Streets. In 1950 Pastor McClellan and the congregation celebrated the move by marching from 96 Spruce Street to 572 Clinton Street where they worshipped in the basement until the sanctuary was completed in 1952.
