Who we are
At Pacific Spirit United Church we create space for conversations that matter. Conversations about God, Christ and the Holy Spirit, and our relationship with God and each other. Conversations about life, and death, and what it means to lead a ‘good life’ in a complex time. At Pacific Spirit faith and intellect are not in conflict, and we believe God welcomes questions, even as we search for answers.
But we’re not just about conversations! In response to God’s love for community and creation we seek to identify areas of service and to make a difference in the world. We understand that living in this way, with the support of others, is part of the way we live out our relationship with God, and into being disciples of Jesus.
We value the energy and wisdom of children and the elders and everyone in between. We value people who are at a variety of places in their faith life, and who hold different worldviews. Through grappling with faith, engagement with community, and encounters with the sacred through the arts, Pacific Spirit offers rich opportunities to grow in relationship with the Holy Other – with God! We’d invite you to wander around the rest of our website, check out the message from our ministry team, contact us, or come and meet us, if you wish to get to know us more.
At our Sunday services we provide ASL interpretation and we have amplifying headphones for hard of hearing people. Our buildings are wheelchair accessible and, we hope, welcoming to all who are interested in exploring together. While we don’t have ASL translation on Wednesdays, that service is translated into written Mandarin, with some parts spoken as we have speakers available.

Quote of the Day
Isaiah 32:2
And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Leader Bio:
Maggie was raised in the United Church. She has an undergraduate education in psychology and law. She has a Master of Divinity from VST and was ordained in 1991.
Maggie was settled to a two-point charge at Lake Cowichan and Youbou. After 3 years serving there, she accepted an overseas posting to Pearl Lagoon, Nicaragua – employed by the United Church and serving our partner church, the Moravian Church of Nicaragua. Upon her return to Canada she spent three years at Knox United Church. Maggie then served for 16 years at Comox United, leading the congregation through the AFFIRM process and a major chancel renovation. After sabbatical time looking at the growing edges of the United Church, Maggie has most recently been serving at Sylvan United while they search for a new minister.
Maggie was drawn to us through our Ministry Profile Report. She is excited about the building project – for its complexity and the possibilities it creates for new relationships with our neighbours. She is a fine preacher and has a beautiful singing voice. Maggie enjoys working collaboratively but is not afraid to make decisions and looks forward to working with our strong staff team. One congregant told our Search Team we had to find someone who had the energy of a 20-year old and the wisdom of a 50-year old. We think we have found those gifts and more in Maggie.

We need passion in our faith! Instead of praying, 'If I should die before I wake', we should pray, 'Lord wake me up before I die!'
