Who we are
Our Vision Statement
"In small communities good things happen when people work together; not only within the church but the community and beyond, with no boundaries visible.
Let's reach out to our neighbors in word and in deed. Grow deeper in faith and in knowledge. Serve faithfully."

Pendleton United Church History
The founding of what is now Pendleton United Church began January 5, 1886 when Henry Moffatt
granted the present parcel of land to trustees appointed by the Congregation of The Presbyterian
Church of Plantagenet. The price was the sum of one dollar. Pendleton was associated with Hammond. A fire on June 13, 1914 destroyed the Hammond Church and the records of both churches.
In 1925, the year of the creation of The United Church of Canada, the name changed to The Pendleton United Church. In the mid 1930’s it became a single entity Pastoral Charge with its own Manse House located in the Village of Pendleton.
The 1945-1946 time frame brought further changes. The horse and buggy shed was no longer required and disposed of thus signifying the change in mode of transportation used by the Congregation.
Pendleton joined with Riceville and Georges lake. In 1967 Georges Lake United Church closed and since then the pastoral charge is known as The Riceville Pendleton Pastoral Charge.
In the 1980’s numerous significant changes took place. In 1980 there were two Organists and two Sunday services. Service in Riceville with a relatively young Organist named Catherine Clemens followed by service in Pendleton with a seasoned Organist and long time member named Calvin Johnston.
In 1982 the Manse House in Riceville was sold. In 1983 we went from two Sunday Services to one, alternating the location monthly. In 1985 Calvin Johnston moved from this area to Collingwood.
Gladys deVries, wife of our retired Baptist Minister, became the Organist in Pendleton. In 1986 the first significant changes to the original Church building were made. It was raised and a basement was built under it. The Harrigan family, owners of the land surrounding the Church, were most helpful. Hubert and Ruth gave us permission to work on their property and Wilfred made the first donation to the Building Fund.
When the 100th Anniversary was celebrated August 7, 1988, the basement was fully equipped, renovations in the Worship Area were completed, and all was paid for. In 1989 Rev. Henry deVries and his wife Gladys moved away from this area and Catherine Clemens became the Organist also in Pendleton.
In August of 1992 Rev. Gail Christy became our Pastoral Charge Minister. The 2000’s brought more changes. In 2003 a new Propane Heating system replaced the old oil stove heating system.
In 2005-2006 an Elevator/Faith Lift was installed making the basement of the Church building accessible to all. The Faith Lift Project was a team effort from beginning to ending. The inspiration was our former Minister Reverend Gail Christy.

I want to know Thee
Father, I want to know Thee, but my coward heart fears to give up its toys. I cannot part with them without inward bleeding, and I do not try to hide from Thee the terror of the parting. I come trembling, but I do come. Please root from my heart all those things which I have cherished so long and which have become a very part of my living self, so that Thou mayest enter and dwell there without a rival. Then shalt Thou make the place of Thy feet glorious. Then shall my heart have no need of the sun to shine in it, for Thyself wilt be the light of it, and there shall be no night there. In Jesus Name, Amen.
