The Greek Revival structure was built as the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1841. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places wherein it states the "church has a meeting house form to which was added a monumental portico and Wren-inspired, two tier central tower. An elaborate weather vane sits atop the domed roof."

A Brief History of the Poultney Methodist Church

The history of our church dates back to the late 1700’s. Our early parishioners were served by circuit preachers.

1832-Poultney put into the Troy Conference
1822-1841-The Poultney Methodist Church met at the Stone Church
1840-1842-The Poultney Methodist Church of today was built and dedicated. The Troy Academy (now Green Mountain College) contributed $600 towards it.
The church was built in what was then known as West Poultney to be closer to the Troy Academy.
1857-1858-church was frescoed, inside blinds added and the ground in front terraced and graded

The power of Christian prayer "Yes, Lord"
"Yes, Lord! Jesus, I give all of this to you. Jesus," I just started out a dream for my neighbourhood. "I didn't ask you to make me a messenger to the world. I just wanted to love my neighbours. But Jesus, here it is. Here's my future, here's my loneliness, here are all the pressures, here are the criticism", and I gave Him everything. And I told Him to take me again and I would try to make "Yes, Lord" the continuing motto of my life..
