Who we are

The parish family of St. John the Evangelist is Christ-centered, welcoming, generous and dedicated. The cornerstone on our church reads, “The Blessings we receive are to be used for the Glory of God.” We believe all that we have comes from God and that we should use our gifts to help others as Christ did. Our parish family gladly welcomes visitors and new members and invites them to become a part of our community. We are generous in sharing our time and talents to serve God and one another. We dedicate ourselves to furthering the Kingdom of God here on Earth.

Mission Statement

We, the people of St. John the Evangelist, pledge to follow the example of Jesus, our Lord, by always being charitable, compassionate, merciful, and loving, each day of our lives.

Leader Bio:
Fr. Gregg Gorczyca returned to St. John the Evangelist as parish administrator, following the passing of Fr. Ted Schmitt in December of 2014 and was formally installed as our pastor on Sept. 19, 2015. Born and raised in Rzeszow/Strzyzow (south-east corner of Poland) Fr. Gregg entered Rzeszow Seminary in 1997. He came to the U.S. in 2001 to continue his seminary education at the Bishop Abramowicz Preparatory Seminary in Chicago. His first parish assignment as a seminarian happened to be at St. John the Evangelist Parish with Fr. Bob Tonelli and Fr. Fred Pesek.

After studying English at UIC, he went on to study theology at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, and on May 21, 2005 was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Having served as an associate pastor at St. Pascal’s Parish in Chicago, St. Theresa’s Parish in Palatine and St. William’s Parish in Chicago, Fr. Gregg is very excited to be our pastor and is grateful to Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother for this opportunity. It is a joy for him to see that St. John’s is an active, prayerful, and faithful parish and school community.   Edit

Our Sunday Mass Schedule is the same: 4:30 pm on Saturday, 7:30 am, 9 am, 11 am and 6 pm in English, and 1 pm. in Polish on Sunday.

Also, do not attend Mass if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have recently come into contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

To register for Mass, first select the number of tickets you would like for the weekend of July4/5 or July 11/12th.. To allow more people to attend Mass, you may choose only ONE Sunday celebration until Friday, July 10th, at 5 p.m. If spots are available for the second weekend, the restriction on Mass registration will be lifted and seats will be open even if you attended a prior Mass. Be considerate of your fellow parishioners and please do not use multiple emails to circumvent the system unless you have more than 4 people attending. We will open up spots for the second weekend after everyone has had the chance to sign up.

Please chose the number of seats you need first, such as a single ticket, tickets for 2 people, tickets for 3 people or tickets for 4 people. DO NOT SIGN UP MULTIPLE PEOPLE IN THE SINGLE TICKET SLOTS. Families of more than 4 people may have select a combination of tickets or may contact [email protected] or call the office at 630-837-6500 for assistance. Masks must be worn during Mass by all those over two years of age. You will be asked to sanitize your hands before entering Mass by our greeters. We use a CDC approved natural sanitizer that dissipates quickly and leaves little to no odor. You may bring and use your own personal sanitizer prior to entering the Church if you wish. Thank you so much for helping us to re-open for Mass safely. If we keep this up, it will help us to open up to accommodate more people. We all want our church to be filled once more.

Special Needs/Accessibility

Reserved seating is provided for persons with disabilities in the front of the church. Our sanctuary was designed so that all parishioners may participate in liturgical ministries. A wheelchair ramp behind the altar and a movable ambo allow parishioners with disabilities to participate as Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers.

Our church is equipped with an AED device (commonly known as a defibrillator) provided by the Knights of Columbus. Many of our Ushers have been trained to use the device and provide CPR. Our Nurses Ministry provides a nurse at each Mass to help parishioners who become ill.   Edit

The power of Christian prayer May your light illuminate our hearts
Eternal God, this holy night is radiant with the brilliance of your one true light. May that light illuminate our hearts and shine in our words and deeds. May the hope, the peace, the joy, and the love represented by the birth in Bethlehem this night fill our lives and become part of all that we say and do. May we share the divine life of your son Jesus Christ, even as he humbled himself to share our humanity. Amen.
