St Leonard's Service Times

Sunday
8:00 am - Holy Eucharist (Book of Common Prayer)
8:00 am - Holy Communion
Prayer Book
Every Sunday at 8:00 AM for ¾ hour
Holy Eucharist
Our most important service or celebration has several names, Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper, Mass and the Divine Liturgy. Holy Communion means fellowship and sharing; the Lord's Supper means a meal given by Jesus himself; the Eucharist means thanksgiving.
It is probably our most important service as it celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus, particularly remembering the Last Supper when we share the bread and wine as Jesus did with his disciples. Jesus was the host at the Last Supper and we believe he is the unseen host at the Holy Communion service today with the congregation as his guests.
In the Church of England the Holy Communion may only be celebrated by an ordained Bishop or Priest when he or she is called a celebrant. It is customary to have been confirmed by a Bishop before receiving communion. Children who are too young to take communion and those who are not confirmed are invited to have a blessing at the altar.
When you come to a service at Swithland Church you will be given a service booklet by the Sidesman, which will enable you to share fully in the service. We stand to sing hymns and to say the affirmation of faith, the Creed; and for the reading of the Gospel in the Holy Eucharist. We sit during readings from the Bible, the Sermon, and the choir anthems. We sit or kneel for the prayers during the service.
Every first fourth fifth and last Sunday at 9:30 AM for 1 hour
Morning Prayer
In its classic form, in the 1662 version of the Prayer Book, the Morning Prayer is essentially unchanged from Archbishop Thomas Cranmer’s Second Prayer Book of Edward VI, published in 1552. It draws on the monastic offices of Matins, Lauds and Prime, beginning with opening versicles and responses, continuing with the invitatory "Venite" (Psalm 95), the "Te Deum" and "Benedictus", interspersed with Bible readings, as well as recitation of the Apostles’ Creed, and ending with closing versicles adapted from the Breviary. The Prayer Book lectionary provides for a virtually complete reading of the Bible in the course of a year.
Every third Sunday at 9:30 AM for 1 hour
Family Service
Our family service on the second Sunday of each month utilises a worship theme and we positively encourage the involvement of the children in our congregation.
Please note that the next Family Service is on Sunday 14th September, commencing at 9.45 am.
Sunday at 9:30 AM for 1 hour
