About St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica

Welcome to the Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica! Saint Mary’s has been the home to a Catholic community for over two hundred years. It has enjoyed the gifts of many generous generations who have built the community as a Catholic witness to the gospel in the heart of the city.

As the mother church of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth and the Cathedral seat of Archbishop Mancini, Saint Mary’s is the site of many events for the whole Archdiocese in addition to providing worship for its own membership.

At present we offer a variety of services from catechetical formation to a thriving senior’s ministry, with outreach to the people of the street and those in seniors homes.

Quote of the Day
Matthew 2:4-6

When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.

"In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written:
'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.'"

The power of Christian prayer Give me a steadfast heart
Give me, O Lord, a steadfast heart which no unworthy thought can drag downwards; an unconquered heart which no tribulation can wear out; an upright heart which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside. Bestow upon me also, O Lord my God, understanding to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
