Leader Bio:
Fr. Phil Smith, cpps, originally from Kansas City, Missouri (otherwise known as the “show me state”), has been in Canada since January 2, 2002 residing in Ontario where the motto is “yours to discover”.
After his ordination on May 21, 1977, in Kansas City, Missouri, in his home parish of St. Charles Borromeo, he had been missioned to teach French and Religion and was the school librarian at Precious Blood Seminary in Liberty, Missouri. Afterwards, he was missioned to work in the Vocation Office for the Kansas City province of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.
In 1989, he was elected as delegate of the worldwide Precious Blood General Assembly and was subsequently elected to serve as Secretary General in Rome up to 1995. He was re-elected in 1995 coming out of Rome in 2001.
His experience in learning the Italian culture, language and cuisine enabled him in his ministry as Pastor of St. Roch from 2002 through to 2016, Pastor at St. Alphonsus Church in midtown Toronto, and now back at St. Roch in 2020.
During the course of his experience in Toronto, he was elected to the Provincial Council and served as Vice Provincial from 2007 - 2011. He has served on various communities, both with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood as well as the Archdiocese of Toronto.
He believes that his ministry back at St. Roch is a gift and is enjoying exploring parish ministry in this new decade.

Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books. It costs too much to be hoarded. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right.
