Who we are
Our mission is to connect people with God, connect people with people, and connect people with service.
We believe that all people matter to God and so much so that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place and become our sacrificial substitute, winning for us life, heaven, and hope through the power of the resurrection.
We exist to proclaim the gospel of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to all, beginning in our community. We desire to see people respond to this message by receiving Christ as Lord and Savior. It is then our responsibility to teach these same people how to grow in their walk with Christ, by learning the Scriptures and applying them to their lives.
We see church as a place where...
People find real help, experience real change, and discover real answers.
People can know they are fully forgiven, fully free in Christ.
People have nothing to prove, nothing to lose, and no reason to pretend.
People are trained, equipped, and empowered to impact lives across the street and around the world.
People experience authentic community and spiritual growth.
Serving others is a joy, not just an obligation.
Creativity and innovation are encouraged, not feared.
People are free to succeed, free to fail, and free to attempt great things for God.

My Motivation
The message of the Gospel is the most profound and magnificent message I've ever heard. When I first heard the Gospel, I thought, 'Everyone needs to hear this!' So I've devoted my life to getting it out. There is nothing in the world that compares to the joy of seeing people reconciled to God, and to see their lives change through the teaching of God's Word.
My Background
I have been a lead pastor for 30 years, including 19 years at a church in Wisconsin that began in my living room. In 2007, my wife Linda and our three children, Junior, Erica, and Brock moved to Des Plaines to serve at The Bridge.
My Spiritual Journey
I became a committed follower of Jesus at the age of seventeen, during a very dark period of my life. I was most influenced by a group of Christian high schoolers and a pastor who openly shared the Gospel with me.
One More Thing
I love to scuba dive and skydive. I've only been skydiving once...but it was incredible!

The Bridge Community Church History
Since 1927, God has been using the church at 946 E. Thacker in Des Plaines to reach men, women and children throughout our community with the gospel. Originally named Faith Bible Church, we started as a small Sunday school for kids in the neighborhood. Since then, the church has had multiple names and buildings, but one single focus. To reach people with the good news of Jesus Christ and mature followers in their faith.
In 2007, the church called Scott Ziegler to be lead pastor of Des Plaines Bible Church. Since that time, the church has been renamed The Bridge Community Church and has grown in its reach locally and globally.
The Bridge is a non-denominational church and has been for many years. That means we aren’t linked with any particular denomination. But that doesn’t tell us very much, does it?
It is probably most helpful to focus on the central commitment of The Bridge, and that is for it to be a Christian church. This is not to say something contrary to what other churches say, including denominational churches. But what do we mean by “Christian”? “Christian” means simply to be related to Christ. Central in what we believe are the truths that Jesus Christ came to the human race, and that he offered Himself as Savior and Lord. He is our source of forgiveness, our way to a new start, and the only way we can come under the leadership and care of God in our lives.
Secondly, we are a church that is focused on teaching the Bible. We believe that the Bible has the answers for life and the afterlife and that we can understand what it says and apply its principles to our lives, even in the twenty-first century.
So while we don’t have a common label attached to our name, we think you will find our approach to following Christ and understanding the Bible to be refreshing.
We believe God has called The Bridge to reach people for many years to come. Our history is long, but our story has much yet to be written. We hope you will join with us as we move forward, trusting God with the results.

Help me pray
Grant that I may not pray alone with the mouth; help me that I may pray from the depths of my heart.
