Who we are

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of New Bern is a diverse community committed to the ideal of being human religiously.

We represent a liberal approach to religion, encouraging each other to do the best thing in the best way from the highest motives. We believe that truth, justice, and compassion are required of us. We believe that love is better than hatred, understanding is better than prejudice, and that if there is ever to be a better world, people of widely differing beliefs will have to help each other build it.

We meet at 10:30 every Sunday morning for a worship service that may be centered on spirituality, ethics, literature, the Buddha or Moses. Or, we may simply share our own views and beliefs on subjects as diverse as gratitude or sin.

Sunday School / Children and Youth Activities

Other activities & ministries

The Lunch Bunch meets shortly after Sunday services usually about 12 noon, at different restaurants in New Bern for fellowship. We discuss most subjects that affect our daily life with humor and honesty. All are welcome to attend. The schedule is as follows; 1st Sunday of the month we meet at IHOP, 2nd Sunday, Famous Subs, 3rd at Sea Glass, and the 4th Applebee's. On the 4th Sunday we discuss where to meet on the 5th Sunday's lunch.

Myth and Metaphor meets on Thursdays at 10:00am at the fellowship. Myth and Metaphor is an exploration of religious ideas and beliefs, myths, values and meaning through the writings of various thinkers. Human behavior and the pressures that shape it is discussed and readings range from short essays to long books.

Adult religious exploration classes on various topics are offered in the Thursday through Sunday time frame over the second and fourth Sundays of the month when the minister is present in New Bern.

River Kayaking: UUFNB kayaking is a gentle activity. We paddle at a leisurely pace enjoying the wonders of the area’s rivers and the company of our fellow kayakers.
Kayaking is every Thursday morning (weather permitting) April through September. Meet at 8:30 am at designated launch area, in the water at 9:00 am. Total time of paddling is two hours. Each week is a different paddle.
Need to bring water, whistle, sun screen, hat, water shoes, your Personal Flotation Device (PFD), kayak and paddle. If you do not have a kayak, please let me know. Beginners welcomed.

Meditation: The weekly Meditation Class at UUFNB is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced meditators. We always go over the basics of why we meditate and how to meditate with time for practice as well as questions. The Meditations are often guided as that facilitates the meditative experience, especially for beginners. Our communication regarding topics and relevant hiatus dates is by weekly emails. All are welcome on Wednesdays from 11:30 to 12:30 at The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of New Bern.

Kaffee Klatch is held on Mondays, 9:30am at Lawson’s Landin. Several years ago, a few folks agreed to meet for coffee at a local restaurant every Monday morning, for the purpose of exploring in depth an issue of the day. Over time, that has morphed into a significant socialevent, with as many as fifteen voices all talking at once about anything and everything. It has proven to be a particular draw for newer members, in getting to know and getting to be known. And it often yields ideas, big and small, to enhance the Fellowship experience.
New Bern Sangha was founded in 2000 by three UU friends. Since that time we've met, often twice and at least once a month. We begin our meetings with a meditation, typically about ten to twenty minutes, then a Dharma discussion period and we end with another short meditation. The Dharma discussions are wide-ranging Buddhist teachings, using them to live in this crazy world and just responding from a Buddhist perspective to the latest significant world event. We are non-denominational and lay-led, although we have welcomed visits from a Zen abbot, Tibetan Buddhist, Bon practitioners and the International Nichiren Buddhist Church. We believe that Buddhist teachings can help anyone negotiate life, no matter what religion they profess.

Meetings are on the second Tuesday, 7:00-8:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Stan Allen, 252-633-4685. We also meet on the third Tuesday from 6:00-7:15 p.m. in River Bend.

Humanists & Freethinkers of New Bern is a non-profit, secular group of atheists, agnostics, skeptics, freethinkers, humanists, non theists, and non-believers - or whichever label you like best. As achapter of the American Humanist Association (AHA) in Washington, DC, we follow their philosophy:
A progressive philosophy of life, that without the supernatural beliefs,
affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal
fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
We meet the second Sunday evening of the month at 5:50 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of New Bern and welcome any like-minded people to join us for friendship, socializing, and to learn about and support humanism and its values.   Edit
