Who we are

Abundant Life is a church whose purpose is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

We are founded upon the belief that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God.

We believe in the great commission and are endeavoring to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with love, mercy and compassion.

In accordance with Deuteronomy 6:4, we believe there is only one God. He is the creator of heaven and earth, and of all living beings. He has manifested Himself as the Father in Creation, as the Son in redemption, and as the Holy Ghost in regeneration.

We believe in water baptism by immersion in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Through water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Ghost we identify with the command to be born again given by Jesus and with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:3-6; Colossians 2:11-14; Acts 2:38; John 3:3-7.

We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in other tongues. Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:1-6.

We believe in the manifestation of the Spirit as revealed through the gifts of the Spirit. Through born again believers God uses the gifts of the Spirit to minister to the body of Christ. God has blessed the body of Christ with the following gifts; interpretation of tongues, prophecy, words of knowledge and wisdom, discerning of spirits, faith, working of miracles, healing, helps and government. 2 Corinthians 12:1-11

Our Purpose:

Reaching People, God's heart, and His purposes for our lives. We are a multicultural family of believers who have a heart to see their community impacted with the love of Jesus Christ. Our worship is Apostolic, biblically grounded, and Spirit filled.

Our Vision:

"Impacting Lives, Changing Our World"

Our Mission:

"To reach our world with the saving message of Jesus Christ. Our church shall equip every member with the Gospel burden and Apostolic tools needed to reach our community and beyond with the life transforming message of the gospel. Through biblical teaching, pastoral insight, and the transforming power of the Holy Ghost, new disciples will be trained to serve in the body of Christ, taught how to live an abundant overcoming life and prepared for the return of “Our Lord and Savior.”

Abundant Life Christian Assembly History

Pastor Mark and Sister Deena Thomas came to Plaquemine via an invitation to teach bible study in the home of Sister Ann Brigalia. Through this successful year and a half bible study souls were saved and a gospel burden was developed for the city of Plaquemine. Shortly thereafter, Abundant Life Christian Assembly was founded on August 11, 2001 by the Thomas'. The first service was attended by Pastor and Sister Thomas and their two sons Mark Thomas Jr. and Jeremy Thomas, Ann Brigalia, Rosemary Rylander and Andy Boudreaux. The first church building was located at 2417 Desobry Dr. The building was a converted washeteria and exercise studio. Pastor Thomas joked back then that the building was now used to wash souls and dance for Jesus. Though small, the store front building served its temporary purpose of allowing a small congregation to grow in numbers, unity, and compacity in order to better serve the Plaquemine community. In April of 2006, the church moved to its present location at 58295 Main St. The new building previously housed the African American Catholic church of Plaquemine and had been abandoned for 20 years to the date that it was closed on an Easter Sunday. It was renewed again as an Apostolic beacon of hope on an Easter Sunday. On Sunday November 15, 2015 the church completed the construction of its new fellowship hall located directly behind the main sanctuary. Through the years, the church has grown and become a sanctuary for those who are hurting, lonely, and in need of a touch from God. It is a place where family, unity, love, the Word of the Lord and the Holy Spirit are emphasized as a meaningful part of church life.
