Cameron Grove A.M.E. Zion Church History
Cameron Grove A.M.E. Zion Church was organized in 1876 and built on an acre of land donated by Mr. Thomas Cameron. Five dollars were given to Mr. Cameron so the land could be legally deeded. However, Mr. Cameron returned the money to help in building the church. Services were first held in a brush arbor, then a simple one-room structure. Additions were made to this one room. Early membership included the Cameron, Mclean, Prince, Womack, Buie, Douglas, Brewington, Marks, Rollins, Thomas and Cox families.
In 1954 we were blessed with a new church under the leadership of Rev. J.A. Jones. We worshiped in this church from 1954-2005. Our Christian Education Annex was completed and Dedicated on July 1, 1990, under the leadership of Dr. Grant J. Price.
On July 10, 2005 we were blessed to have our present sanctuary completed and dedicated under the leadership of Rev. C.L. McDougald. The threes buildings have come together as one and sits as one beautiful structure.
After Rev. McDougald, We were honored and privileged to have a new shepard of our flock in Rev. Ray P. Owens, Sr.; where we experienced "A Season Of Supernatural Success."
Today, we have been graced again to have yet a new shepard of our flock in Kenneth L. Swann, For we are so excited and anticipating a new chapter at Cameron Grove.
