Who we are

The Kinneigh Union of Churches is proud to be an opening and welcoming congregation. In keeping with these values, The Select Vestry of Kinneigh Union has requested that details of all its churches and services to be listed on the Changing Attitude Ireland website to re-affirm that Kinneigh Union congregations are open and welcoming to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” – Matthew 25

Kinneigh St Bartholomew History

St Bartholomew's Church and Round Tower at Kinneigh
Overlooking St Bartholomew's C of I parish church and graveyard, is the unique round tower of Kinneigh, the only surviving building of an early monastery. It was built sometime during the C11, and is unique in Ireland, as apart from its great age (1000 years), it is the only example of a round tower with a hexagonal base. Round towers were prominent in many Irish monasteries, and were in use primarily as bell towers. They may well have had a secondary use as a store for relics, or even used for defensive purposes during times of unrest. The tower would originally have been capped with a pointed conical roof.
