Who we are
Moses Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in 1883, only 18 years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation freeing the slaves, and only 13 years after the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church came into existence. The church was first located on the North side of town on the Cherokee Trail. In 1898, the congregation purchased land and built the church at the present location: 400 East Taylor Street, Gilmer, TX 75644

Rev. Forrest Curry, Sr. is a native of Big Sandy, Texas and the of the late Mr. S.L. Curry, Sr. and the Mrs. Dorothy M. Hill-Curry. Rev. Curry has been married to former Sereda Harper for 43 years and they have two children; Adrian and Forrest L. Curry, Jr., and four grandchildren.
Rev. Curry is a 1970 graduate of Big Sandy High School, 1972 graduate of Tyler Junior College, a 2006 graduate of Texas College in Tyler with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration, and a graduate of the Bishops Religious Course of Study in 2004. He has served as pastor for the New Zion C.M.E. Church in Linden-Klidare, TX, Bethel C.M.E. Church in Beckville, TX and has been the pastor for Moses Chapel C.M.E. Church of Gilmer, Texas for over 8 years. Under Pastor Curry's leadership, Moses Chapel C.M.E. Church has grown not only spiritually, but numerically as well, new ministries have been added and also the addition of a new Fellowship Hall and renovation to the existing building. Rev. Curry is an Ordained Elder in full connection with Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Eight Episcopal District, in the East Texas Region. He was appointed by Bishop Henry M. Williamson to serve as the Chairman of the Ministerial Examination committee for ministers on trial and a member of the Joint Board of Finance in the Longview/Marshall District.
His career occupations include: Southland Distributions Center for 20 years, Genpak Corp. for 6 years and Jarvis Christian College in Facilities for 10 years.
Rev. Curry served on the Board of Trustees for Big Sandy I.S.D. for fifteen years and president for 6 of those years. February 5th 2013, Rev. Curry was the recipient of 'The Outstanding Leadership Award 2013' at the Fifty-Fifth Session of the Annual Minister's Conference held at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, TX.
His hobbies include: reading, singing, gardening, evangelizing and spending time with his family.
