Who we are

Our mission at St. Margaret's is to be a loving, leading community of God's people, dedicated to involvement in the life of the parish and surrounding community, following the example of Christ and welcoming all in friendship.
At St Margaret's, we pride ourselves in having many programs to offer support, education in the way of Christ and more. In our local community we offer support & volunteer to help with the Out of the Cold program and Rainbows. We have a youth group for children and teens from about ages 13+, offering events about once every week or so. For adults, our church offers Bible studies, the Alpha course, Men's breakfast, and much more.

St. Margaret's originally started out as a weekly service in the one of the local elementary schools' gymnasium. Since that time, in the last ten years, it has grown; having moved from the gym, to the Letitia plaza storefront, to a portable at its current location, to its existing partially completed permanent location, which was officially dedicated in April of 1999. Within the next few years or sooner, it is hoped that we will be able to expand our facilities to better serve the needs of the church and the community.

Children and Youth Activities

Under 12s:
Sunday School

Our excellent Sunday School Program is offered and we invite you to bring your children to the 10:00 a.m. Family Service. You will be delighted to see the fun they will have while learning Christian values from this program. Rev. Simon also wants to involve the children regularly in the Sunday Communion Service.

Under 18s:
Youth Group

At St. Margaret's we feel it is very important that our youth are exposed to the teachings of the Lord and learn how to be better people through Christianity. Our Youth Group allows teenagers to learn more about God and make new friends, in a fun-filled setting. The group participates in a variety of activities in and outside of the church, including drama, helping with the readings and prayers at the family services, fundraisers, and activity nights.

Once a month we meet for a gym night or another activity such as movie night, parties, pizza night, laser tag, rock climbing, snow tubing, camping etc. Come out and enjoy the fun.

Our next youth night will be Friday, December 13th at the church, 6:00 p.m.

Local outreach & community activities:

Community Outreach

We have members of our community approach us at St. Margaret's requesting our assistance for food to tide them over until the end of the month or until they can get appointments with other organizations. We want to assist those in our community who are in immediate need of food. We are asking that you consider bringing just one or two items: canned goods, tea, instant coffee, cereal, peanut free snacks, etc. to church each month to assist. That way we can have a supply on hand to help those who are in desperate need. We know the present situation is challenging for most families but anything our congregation can do to improve life for those most seriously in need will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance with this initiative. We will still have our Food Bank program running on the first Sunday of the month.

Casserole Team

We are looking for new members to join our casserole team. Men and women are all welcome to join in to help with this Ministry. We provide casseroles for families in our parish who are having difficulty with illness or treatments, etc. and need a warm meal prepared for them occasionally. A casserole once a month is what we anticipate. If you would like to help, please contact Margaret Paradis, the church office or sign up on the sheet in the narthex.

Sock it to me

Once again this year we are going to run our “Sock it to me” program. We will be collecting, socks, hats, and gloves for the homeless.

This year winter is expected have very severe temperatures with a lot of snow so the homeless/unfortunate are going to be in dire need of items to keep them warm.

If you can help please drop off your donations to the church on Sunday if you are coming to service or through the week if you are just dropping by.

Yarn Needed

If you have yarn that you no longer need and would like to donate it to the church, we have a few senior citizens who are knitting hats, scarves and mittens for us to donate to the local schools as part of our Missional Transformation and Outreach project. If you are a knitter or crocheter and would like to help make some items either for our Outreach Project or the craft table at our Christmas Bazaar please speak to Lorraine Whitwell or Colleen.

Barrie Food Bank

Each month we ask you to provide donations to the food-bank. Of course donations are needed and very welcome at any time.

For more information on this program please speak with Al McPhee.

Faith Works

Providing shelter and meals for those in need. Volunteers are urgently needed.

For several years, the parishioners of St. Margaret's have shown their compassion and generosity for those less fortunate in our community by providing meals for the 'Out of the Cold' program, one evening a month throughout the winter months. Once again this year, we have been asked to participate by preparing and delivering 4 lasagnas to Collier St. United Church, hot and ready to serve, by 5:30 pm.

History of St. Margaret's

Our Church's History

St Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church was founded in the mid 1980's, beginning as a gathering at the local community hall, then moving to the Letitia Heights plaza. In 1995 the church moved to its present location near West Bayfield School. The permanent facility, a 3 phase ongoing project began with a portable unit. Since that time the first phase of the permanent building was opened in April of 1999. The final stage of construction is expected to take place within the next five years, to include a nursery and sunday school facilities as well as a banquet / meeting hall.

Saint Margaret of Scotland - A Brief History

Our parish logo symbolizes St Margaret, who gathered the orphans, the poor and the sick to herself. Margaret became Queen of Scotland in the year 1070, when she married King Malcolm of MacBeth fame. She opened her arms to the people. Orphans were taken into the royal palace, the sick and the suffering tended, prisoners of war released and the poor were fed. Through devotion and love, Margaret won the hearts of the Clan Chieftains and aided Malcolm in uniting Scotland as a nation. She died in 1093 and was made a Saint in 1251.
