During August of that year I preached my first sermon. I entered the Methodist Theological School of Ohio in 2011. I was instantly enthralled when I began seminary, whatever I learned I gladly took back to our church and shared it with our parishioners. Sadly, after several controversies (not personal) regarding various preachers in the AME Zion church, the Lord and I decided it was time for me to move on. In May of 2012 I became a member of the United Methodist Church (UMC) where I initially worshipped in Reynoldsburg. In Reynoldsburg I was a ministry intern for two rotations where I learned a great deal about working in ministry. I was blessed to work with some talented and fantastic folks, and got my first opportunity to go on short term mission trips. My first trip was to New Jersey to help victims of Hurricane Sandy, the second mission trip was to Haiti to help refurbish a village school. Also in January of 2013 while in seminary, I was blessed to travel to Cuba with a group of fellow seminarians for our cross cultural immersion experience. The following year in the spring of 2014 I received a student enrichment grant which allowed me to travel to the countryside of England and study Wesleyan Spirituality at Cliff College. During my last term at seminary, I was an intern in clinical pastoral education at Nationwide-Children’s Hospital. I graduated from MTSO on May 24, 2014, with my Master of Divinity degree and a specialization in spirituality. My last year at seminary I began the process to become an ordained elder in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Within this process, in January of this year I appeared before our board of ordained ministry, they voted to affirm me as a provisional elder. I was confirmed a provisional elder at our annual conference at Lakeside in June of this year. My former church was North Broadway UMC in the Clintonville area where I was blessed to worship and serve in a very loving faith community. My North Broadway church family was very supportive of me while I sought my provisional elder status. A little more about me, recently I graduated from a year of chaplain residency at the Ohio State University (OSU), Wexner Medical Center. I look forward to a continued relationship with the Pastoral Care Department at OSU as I work part-time in a health care setting as a contract chaplain. I’m also currently in the process of seeking ecclesiastical endorsement from the denomination.
