Who we are
Barnhill St Margaret’s is a vibrant congregation of 700 communicant members of all ages.
We are forward thinking in our approach to mission and outreach and are keen to promote our presence in our community.
We are a church family who support one another, work collaboratively and worship together.
For our young people as well as our Sunday Worship we offer a variety of activities, which include:
Messy Church is held on the last Saturday of each month
(except June and July) where any young children accompanied with an adult are very welcome;We really like to celebrate at every opportunity especially with some cake!!
A Holiday Club is held in the first week of the school summer holidays for children going into P1 up to P7;
In response to a growing demand from our teenagers, a Youth Club started in September 2017 and is led by our Youth Worker;
A tots and toddler group runs once a week for pre-school children accompanied by an adult;
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides meet in our Church Halls on Thursday and Friday evenings.
For the more mature, to provide opportunities to meet and enjoy fellowship, we have the following activities, which include:
Church choir meeting on Sunday morning;
Prayer Group meet on a Tuesday morning during school term time;
Bible Study Group;
A well attended Afternoon and Evening Guild;
A Bereavement Friendship Group meeting monthly;
Wednesday Cafe held during school term time;
The Wednesday Afternoon Social Club;
Country Dance Club held on a Monday evening;
Badminton Clubs on Monday and Thursday afternoons;
Book Group meeting monthly;
Craft Group on a Friday afternoon during school term time.

Hello!
I am writing this while sitting at my desk in my new office in the church hall for the first time. It has been a whirlwind of a few weeks since Neal and I and the boys moved down from Aberdeen to Barnhill. I think the best thing for me to do is simply introduce myself to you.
As you already know, my name is Alisa and if you have heard me speak you can tell I am nae Scottish! Yet, I have lived over here in Scotland for nearly 10 years. I trained for ministry in the United States within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A). My home congregation was large, with a ministerial staff of around 16 with even far larger numbers of support staff. I attended Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey and from there worked at churches in both New Jersey and in New York City. But, at the end of my time in training for ministry I felt a call to go abroad. I had studied for a year at the University of St. Andrews, so when I saw an advert for Mannofield Church in Aberdeen I thought, “well, why not.” And, we they say the rest is history.
It was during my time at Mannofield that one of the elder’s family introduced me to Neal. Neal and I have been married for six and a half years. We have two sons, Archie (nearly 4) and Finley (nearly 2.) And we have one very large dog, named Elmer. You may see Neal out walking the dog in the evenings. He is a lovely lurcher, and if you know anything about the bread you know in truth they are lazy beasts.
I am truly excited to be starting my time here at Barnhill St. Margaret’s to serve for, with and alongside everyone. And if you gathered from the first line of my letter, I have a new office down in the church hall. Please pop in and say ‘Hello.’ But, more importantly, tell me your name, over and over again until it drives you mad! I want to get to know all of you, and a great place to start is your name.
So to new beginnings and great beginnings. Let us serve God together in this beautiful patch of the world.

IT IS A ONCE-A-MONTH TIME OF CREATIVITY, WORSHIP AND EATING TOGETHER. We normally meet on the LAST SATURDAY of the month in the hall at 4.00 pm. There is craft, something to eat, a bible story and some actions. By 5.30 pm it is time to go home

For S1 students and above. We meet every second Sunday in the Church Hall between 7pm and 9pm during term time. Lots of activities including sports, games, crafts and bingo. Bring a friend. Contact BSMYC@aol.com for more information.

If you fancy a fun game of badminton why not come along to the Church Hall on Monday or Thursday at 2.00pm? Experienced players or beginners.
Scottish Country Dancing
On a Monday evening from 7.30 -9.30 pm. No experience necessary, all welcome.
Tots and Toddlers
We meet from 9.30am to 11am on Tuesday mornings in the Church Hall during term time. Age range from birth to nursery age although any pre-school child would be welcome. Children to be accompanied by an adult.
Wednesday Cafe
Our cafe – managed and run by volunteers – is open on a Wednesday from 12.30 pm serving soup, sandwiches, salads and homebakes.
Afternoon Social Club
Our social club meet at 1.30pm on Wednesdays to play carpet bowls, scrabble and dominoes. We enjoy each others company along with a cup of tea and cake and would welcome anyone who would like to pop along and see if it’s for them.
Bereavement Support Group
Meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in Room 2 of the hall at 2pm. Offering a listening ear and a friendly chat.
Uniformed Organisations
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides meet in the hall on Thursday and Friday evenings. For further information contact the church office on 737294.

Barnhill St Margaret's Parish Church of Scotland History
Formed in 1884 as a daughter Church of St Rule’s in Monifieth, the Church building dates from 1895 with the transepts added in 1932. Its pre-reformation design reflects the High Church sympathies of the Congregation’s original founders. Since 1895 the Congregation has had nine Ministers.
Glass doors to the main entrance were added to celebrate the buildings centenary.
The pews in the north transept were removed and replaced with chairs to allow the area to be used in different ways including to provide spaces for wheelchairs, prams etc.
