Chalmers Parish Church History

Chalmers Church was built in 1960. The church was originally founded as a Free Church in 1860, located in Union Street Larkhall. However, in the 1950/60’s new housing schemes were built in Strutherhill and Birkenshaw and the Church of Scotland took the decision to transfer the charge of Chalmers Church to its present location to serve these new communities. The church was seen as a mission church and  their ministry flourished. The new church building was completed and opened for worship in October 1961 and the present congregation, a number of whom were the original members who opened the church, celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a special service on 9th October 2011..

Looking back and looking forward the aim is always in the good news “To know Christ and make Him known”.

The Parish was recently selected as one of 8 Chance to Thrive communities across Scotland. This success offers an exciting opportunity for the Church to thrive and become a dynamic and vibrant community resource focussed on the regeneration of our communities.
