Who we are
The Free Church of Scotland is committed to the proclamation and furtherance of the Christian faith in the nation of Scotland and beyond.
With over 100 congregations and more than 13,000 people attending our Sunday services from a wide range of backgrounds, our united desire is to proclaim the Lordship of Jesus Christ – the only Saviour to a dying world – and to live in obedience to the Bible.
We believe that faith in the person and works of our Lord Jesus Christ is humanity’s greatest need, since it is only by His perfect sinless life, sacrificial death on a cross, and bodily resurrection from the dead that we can be reconciled to God and granted eternal life.
Whether this is news to you, or it already forms the very foundation of your existence, you would be very welcome to attend one of our Free Church congregations where you can expect a warm and gracious Christian welcome.
With there being so many different denominations, it can be difficult to distinguish between the branches of the Christian Church.
The Free Church of Scotland subscribes to all of the mainstream Christian orthodox beliefs, and our vision is simply to worship God together and to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
At a basic level we have around 100 congregations all over Scotland, and over 13,000 people attend worship each week. The Church also has links to other denominations in North America, Africa, Asia and Australia. We have a full-time theological seminary in Edinburgh for the training of ministers and other Christian workers, and we are also involved with mission work in India, Latin America and South Africa.
We hope the links on the left will give you an idea of the distinctive flavour of the Free Church – how it came into being, and what we stand for today.

Free Church of Scotland Edinburgh Service Times
Worship in the Free Church features simple Biblical praise.
Most of our churches historically sing unaccompanied Psalms but some have chosen to add Biblical hymns with simple accompaniment.
Singing God’s truth, whether Psalms or other Biblical praise, is a truly enriching experience; and is a way of absorbing his Word into our hearts and allowing it to nourish us.
The central focus of our worship is the Lord Jesus Christ who is the “Word made flesh”.
At our services, and indeed in the whole of our lives, we believe that our worship must be guided and helped by the Holy Spirit.
