Grace Assembly of God History

Grace Assembly of God was founded in 1974 by its current Senior Pastor, Dr. Sydney Ramphal. Over the years, there have been tests and trials, but God has been faithful. The church continues to minister here at home, locally, and abroad.

His son and Associate Pastor, Rev. Sam Ramphal, has faithfully assisted him. With great dedication and the assistance of their families and many faithful fellow believers, they have labored to build God’s kingdom.

The Assemblies of God General Council expressed a desire to begin an “Inner City Assembly” at this location. From December 5, 1974 until November 2, 1999, the building housed the Grace Assembly of God.

However, on November 2, 1999, the building was destroyed by a fire that was started by an arsonist in a neighboring building. Many of you remember the scene, the pictures in the paper, and the news of the utter devastation.

Nevertheless, “Look what the Lord hath done!”

After two years of planning, we broke ground on Sunday, September 30, 2001, for the new building and moved in the present facilities March 17, 2003. Today we are enjoying this beautiful new facility.

A lot has been accomplished, but there is so much more to do. Let us remember Philippians 3:13, 14, “ Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
