Who we are

The Missionary Church is an evangelical denomination committed to church planting and world mission. The denomination consists of more than 744,000 people in nearly 15,000 congregations in 22 countries. In the US there are approximately 80,000 constituents in nearly 500 congregations.

To describe the Missionary Church in one word, we are:

COMMITTED

We are committed to Jesus Christ, the Bible, and the Great Commission.

All of us know a lot of groups who are no longer as committed to the authority of Jesus, but the Missionary Church recognizes Jesus Christ as the ultimate authority.

In a day when the Word of God is often watered down or abandoned altogether,we remain fully committed to the inerrancy of Scripture and the authority of the Word of God.

We are committed to the Great Commission: multiplying disciples who multiply disciples who multiply disciples. That is the command that Jesus gave us, and we will not be distracted by buildings, programs, or anything else.

Organizationally, we are a denomination, but we really see ourselves as a family of churches. As a family of churches we realize that we have a unique identity. Others may share in one or more of our traits, but we believe the combination of the following five traits expresses this unique identity of the Missionary Church.

Leader Bio:
Since obeying God’s call to full-time ministry, Rev. Steve Jones has served the Church in a wide variety of ways – church planter in Ohio, lead pastor in churches in Michigan and Indiana, Michigan District Church Planting board member, Central District Superintendent, and now President of the Missionary Church denomination.

While pastoring, Steve also traveled extensively, preaching the Gospel and teaching principles of Christian leadership in North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He also launched several cutting-edge para-church ministries such as Love In Deed (a non-profit corporation designed to maximize the leadership and effectiveness of Christian non-profit agencies), SHAREHOUSE (a warehouse that distributes tons of new merchandise from retailers without charge to Christian non-profit organizations and churches), Integrity Watch (a means to protect men and women from internet pornography), and teaching for the Pastoral Leadership Institute (the Missionary Church’s on-line ministry training vehicle). His heart for the community is also evident in his service as president (for a while) and member of the board of directors for his local Right to Life agency.

Jones holds a BA from Spring Arbor College (1980) and a M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary (1983). He has been married for more than 30 years to Sue Jones, his indispensable partner in life and daily ministry. Steve and Sue are blessed to have four adult children—Dustin, Mallory, Joshua, and Daniel—who each love and serve the Lord.

Missionary Church Fort Wayne Service Times

The national office is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana near the Fort Wayne International Airport on the south edge of the city. It is easily accessible from both Interstate 69 and 469. The office has been in its present location since 1991, with a generous addition added in 2004.
Both sections of the office were built with extensive volunteer labor under the leadership of Gene and Janice Cherrie and the sacrificial gifts of many individuals, churches, districts, and businesses.
The facilities provide ample work space for all staff, meeting rooms with modest and practical technology, storage for assembling of missionary supplies, and records archiving. The property allows space for additional expansion as needed.
The national staff welcomes all to visit.

Office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm eastern time, Monday through Friday. Summer hours are modified between Memorial Day and Labor Day when the hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:30am to 1:30pm, Friday.

Missionary Church History

History of the Missionary Church

The Missionary Church was the name selected following the merger of the Missionary Church Association and the United Missionary Church in 1969. This was possible because both denominations were committed to preaching only what was in the Bible and to evangelizing the world.

The United Missionary Church, known until 1947 as the Mennonite Brethren in Christ, was formed at a meeting near Dayton, Ohio, in 1883. It began, however, in the 1850s when a number of Mennonite ministers were dismissed from their former churches for having prayer meetings, holding revival services, and giving public testimonies. It was largely through the leadership of Daniel Brenneman and Solomon Eby that the denomination was organized.

Joseph Ramseyer founded the Missionary Church Association after he was dismissed from his former denomination for wanting to be baptized by immersion as a born-again believer in Christ. Ramseyer continued to preach the message of God’s love through Jesus Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King. In 1898, those who shared his convictions adopted the name “Missionary Church Association” because of their desire to evangelize the world.
