Children/Youth

The first catechists in any child’s life are the family members with whom he or she lives. What happens at home – both positive and negative – provides lessons for life. In the family, faith is shared as part of the unfolding of daily life. The home or “domestic church” provides a real place in which a child learns to live his or her faith as well as understanding it. Parents are the first educators of their children in the faith.

Our goal is to create a program of lifelong faith formation that is centered in and flows out of the events of Church life. It embraces all ages and generation, promotes faith growth at home and promotes participation in Church life.

St. Basil Church History

Saint Basil's has been located on Palace St since 1842 and the current church building was completed in 1875 after almost ten years of construction. Designed in the English Gothic Revival Style, Saint Basil's is privileged to be one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in the area with her sweeping vaulted ceilings and the beautiful stained glass windows that were installed in 1937. Saint Basil's is also home to a massive pipe organ built in Woodstock, Ontario by The Warren Organ Co and installed in 1909 in a special design to accommodate the wonderful Rose Window on the south wall.

Today, Saint Basil Parish is home to over 1,400 Catholic families and has produced 16 priests and many nuns in her 171 year history. Currently Saint Basil's is blessed to have two candidates for the priesthood and one sister preparing for holy vows.

Saint Basil Parish is a lively and happy place where new members are always welcomed with open arms; we have many young families in the parish with children of all ages represented at our Sunday Masses. Coffee Sundays are presented monthly by the Catholic Women's League and provide an excellent opportunity for socializing and getting to know the members of the parish after Mass in the church hall. All are welcome to join in the fun.
