Who we are
St George’s Church, opposite Asda Supermarket, was originally built in 1831 to serve the small hamlets of Waterloo and Stakes. The building proved too small however, and in 1970 the new Church was built to serve a growing parish. The Church is open every day, and we look forward to welcoming you.
We are a friendly and welcoming community. After the 10.am Sunday Eucharist coffee is served in the hall, and periodically there is a parish breakfast served between the 8.am and 10.am services. There is an active youth club (2013 Team Ascalon), and numerous church groups as well as social and fund raising events.
Visit our website and take a look at the Sunday Bulletins or the Parish Magazine for an insight to all that is going on at St George’s.
Children are always welcome at St George’s Church. They can choose to join the Sunday School which meets in the Church Hall, or they can stay with their parents for the service. The Sunday School also has a Baby and Toddlers Group. Sunday bags of quiet toys, crayons and paper are available from the back of the church.
The style of worship at St George’s is modern Anglo-Catholic. At the majority of services, the sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated. The Church usually uses established patterns for its liturgy, including Evensong, Compline and Benediction. A pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham takes place annually, the weekend after Easter.
