Who we are
We are the faith community of St. John Gualbert Church in Port McNeill, British Columbia. A town of 2400 people on the north end of Vancouver Island. The communities in our area rely on resource based industries such as logging, fishing and mining as well as tourism for employment. Named after St. John Gualbert patron saint of loggers we are an Anglican United Fellowship.
Like many other churches we face the challenges of declining membership and aging buildings. Remaining a church for all people our community garden welcomes families and individuals to use plots free of charge. One of our biggest fundraisers is our second hand bookstore “A-Frame Books” that operates from the church hall six days per week. It is run by volunteers selling books that are donated by the community allowing us to sell books for $1 each for adult books and 50 cents for children’s books. Our hall is also used by the Happy Gang a group of all ages (some with mobility issues) who meet each week for coffee and fellowship. The church is used by Wild Heart Music a new and exciting choir program for youth in Port McNeill. Thanks be to God for the joyful noise made by these incredible young people.
Our minister Wade Allen works quarter time at St. John Gualbert providing a service each Sunday as well as pastoral care and time in the office on Thursdays. Rev. Allen works three quarter time at St. Columba (Anglican/United) Church in Port Hardy and also provides a communion service once a month in Port Alice.
