Who we are
St. John's is part of a vibrant, thriving area parish working to fulfill the mission that God has given us: to help people enter into true relationship with the Creator, to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with our God. We do this through our weekly services and through a wide range of other activities within our congregation, our parish, and in the wider community.
St. John’s is affectionately called “The Church in the Wildwood.” This title reflects the beauty of our church’s natural setting: next to the St. Lawrence River and surrounded on three sides by Glengarry Campground (St. Lawrence Parks Commission).
All visitors, newcomers, and seekers are welcome to attend worship services, participate in the ministries of our church, and belong to our community. When you visit St. John’s, you can expect to be welcomed with open hearts, to be loved for who you are, to be encouraged to share your gifts, and to share in our common worship through singing, prayers, the reading of Holy Scriptures, and the sharing in the fellowship of Holy Eucharist.

Archdeacon Peter Crosby has been a Priest of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa for over 35 years. He began his ministry as Assistant Curate at Trinity, Cornwall in 1985. He began his appointment as Incumbent of the Parish of St. Lawrence in September 2020. He has served as an Archdeacon under five Bishops and ministered in parishes along the Seaway and in Glengarry County, in the Ottawa Valley, West Quebec, and the City of Ottawa.
Peter is a “son of the Diocese,” having been Baptized at St. Martin’s and Confirmed at St. Stephen’s, both in the west end of Ottawa. He is a graduate of McGill University, Montreal, and St. Paul University, Ottawa. As an Archdeacon, Peter assists Bishop Shane Parker in the pastoral care of clergy and the oversight of parishes within Stormont Deanery.
Peter is married to Maria, an early childhood educator, working in rural and urban Ottawa south. They share their Ingleside home with Ringo, their beloved and boisterous yellow Lab.
When asked what he does in his spare time, he answers that he has more interests than time! Ideal “time off” might include going on a nature walk, participating in a yoga class, reading a good book, listening to music and NPR’s “Poetry Unbound” podcasts, catching up on household chores and “fix-ups,” trying to take a decent photograph, spending time with family and friends.
