Who we are

Over the past year we have had seven congregations disestablish or reorganize and buildings be deconsecrated. We will honour these parishes later in our Synod giving thanks for their faithfulness. St. Paul’s Chatham, St. Stephen’s Courtright, St. George’s Windsor, Bishop Cronyn Memorial, London, St. Paul’s Kerwood; (2019) St. James, Middleton and St. James Hanover. In addition one parish, St. Luke’s Broughdale, has become a Worshipping Community as it develops a new ministry reaching out to University students called Luke’s Place. I ask your prayers for Canon Adele Miles and her team as they risk new ways of connecting and being God’s people.

St. Paul's History

St. Paul's Church was founded in 1880 when Reverend Edward Softley in co-operation with Mr. Isaac Blain, Mr. Wm. Richardson, Mr. Henry Freer and Mr. Charles Matthews started a campaign to obtain subscriptions to finance the building of St. Paul's Church in Kerwood, Ontario. The cornerstone of the church was laid July 21, 1881 and was opened for services on the 2nd day of October in that same year.

St. Paul's was a quaint country church with all the charms of a close family community. Over the past 120 years the members of St. Paul's took great pride in maintaining not only their church, but also the parish hall. Many community groups held regular weekly meetings in our parish hall including the Brownies, Girl Guides, local Optimist Club as well as many other local groups.

Our regular Sunday Services were held at 11:30 a.m. with a Sunday School consisting of about 23 children. We were small in congregation numbers with about 43 families in total, but our enthusiasm for community involvement and sharing of fellowship brought us together for many social events.

Our congregation was made up of many young families whose dedication to our church is truly overwhelming. We used to gather annually for Halloween Dances, New Years' Eve dances, pot luck dinners, Christmas hayrides and we even had our own 'St. Paul's Players-Drama Group'. Many of our young people participated in special plays during significant celebrations within our church such as Easter and Christmas. Sometimes these dramas involved acting, singing, dancing and even puppet plays.
