St. Thomas à Becket in Mississauga is a centre for worship, ministry and fellowship.
We extend an open invitation to join the St. Thomas à Becket family and invite you to Sunday Worship celebrations as we sing songs of worship and gather around Scripture and the Lord’s Table.

David has given his life to the call of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His love for Scripture and God’s Word holds a foundational place in his life and calling. He received his Master of Divinity degree in Theology from Wycliffe College – University of Toronto in 2012. Since his ordination in 2014, he has worked as Associate Priest at Trinity Anglican Church in Sarnia.
While at Trinity Anglican Church, he was part of the team of dedicated lay people and clergy who have grown and developed their youth ministry and small group ministry, as well as participating in the overall growth of the church. In his spiritual journey he has encountered a variety of expressions of worship across different denominations and different styles of music, all the while valuing the gifts and structure of the Anglican tradition. In addition to parish ministry, David’s experience includes working with youth and foreign missions. He has been extensively involved in discipleship, outreach, evangelism, preaching and pastoral care.
David’s heart is set on providing leadership in the building of community, especially here at St. Thomas à Becket, where finds a congregation filled with of love and support, and parishioners who are active in our community, faithful in worship and who have great compassion for those beyond our walls. David and his wife Carolyn are very excited to be part of the St. Thomas à Becket Anglican Church family, and about what God can do here.

Travel/Directions Tips
We are located in the Erin Mills South area of Mississauga, next to the South Common Centre and Wal-Mart. Our address is 3535 South Common Court (off Burnhamthorpe Road between Erin Mills Parkway and Glen Erin Drive).
Parking
We have ample free parking in front of the building. Also, we are handy to public transit – South Common bus terminal is immediately east of our building.

Sunday morning – 8:00 am
Our 8:00 am Sunday service provides an opportunity to worship for those who prefer a quieter, more reflective liturgy in a smaller-sized gathering of about 30-45 people. Most Sundays we sing 2 hymns. Fellowship and refreshments follow the service.
Sunday morning – 10:00 am
Our larger 10:00 am Sunday service attracts about 100-150 people (fewer during the summer) and includes hymns and usually a musical selection sung by our choir and/or Good News musical group.
We offer Sunday school, nursery and a youth group. Fellowship and refreshments follow the service.
Sunday worship involves more than 50 regular volunteers who greet the congregation, read Scripture and prayers during services, assist in distributing communion and prepare the altar for worship.

Dress code:
Wear what you are comfortable wearing. We gather as one in Christ Jesus – some casual, others more dressed up. We are excited that you’re joining us and want you to be more focused on the experience than what you’re wearing.
Children and Youth Activities
Under 12s:
Sunday school is offered (pre-kindergarten to grade 5) in the Anglican Hall during the service. Children join the service for communion/blessing.
Under 18s:
Active youth group (grade 6 and up) is held in the Anglican lounge during the service; youth come in for communion.
Nursery care is offered in the nursery room for those under 3.
Youth Group (grades 6 and up) – Friday evenings, 7-9 pm.
Bible/book study groups, adult Christian Education throughout the year.

Our History
After services began in the fall of 1972, St. Thomas à Becket was given official recognition as a parish on January 16, 1973.
Services were held in various schools until May 1977, when the Erin Mills Church Campus was completed and we joined a shared church facility with three other denominations, each having their own worship space.
Following the departure of two of the congregations, the “common space” is now owned equally by St. Thomas à Becket Anglican Church and Glenbrook Presbyterian Church. In 1996, the Anglican space was expanded and worship was moved into the current worship space; what had been the original worship space is now the Anglican hall.
Who was Thomas à Becket?
St. Thomas à Becket (1118-1170), English Chancellor and Archbishop of Canterbury under Henry II, was born in London, of Norman parents. He was educated at universities in London and Paris.
In 1162, King Henry II appointed Thomas to be the Archbishop of Canterbury. Soon Thomas began taking his responsibilities seriously. Within a year Thomas à Becket and King Henry II were in open conflict.
Invoking the assistance of Pope Alexander III, Becket fled to a monastery in France in November 1164. When King Henry II infringed on the rights of Canterbury by insisting the Archbishop of York crown his son as prince in 1170, Pope Alexander forced a reconciliation between Thomas à Becket and the king, and Becket returned to England. The Archbishop prevailed upon the Pope to suspend bishops who were supporters of the King.
Thomas’s murder near the altar of Canterbury Cathedral on December 29, 1170 was perpetrated by four overzealous knights. Thomas à Becket was canonized by Pope Alexander on February 21, 1173.
In 1220, his bones were placed in a special shrine, which for three centuries continued to be an object of one of the great pilgrimages in Christendom. (In Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the pilgrims are on their way to Canterbury.) At the time of the Reformation (1538), Henry VIII plundered the magnificent shrine and scattered Thomas’s bones because his memory represented a symbol of opposition to the crown. However, the name of the saint remains to this day in the Roman Catholic and Anglican calendar.
A stone from Canterbury Cathedral is embedded in the first pillar of our parish hall.
