Who we are
We are known as a progressive, compassionate, welcoming congregation with strong commitments to social and environmental justice. Comprised of believers and questioners, we pride ourselves on being an Open and Affirming congregation, welcoming, affirming, and advocating for the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons in the church. We are an Earthwise congregation, striving to honor, protect, and educate others about the planet and our role as stewards of creation. As a Just Peace congregation, we aspire to be a beacon of hope, a zone of freedom, a voice of protest, and a body of laborers as we strive for justice in our community and world.
Our church is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon, a suburb of Portland, and we gather from all parts of the metro area. We are multigenerational and welcome people of all ages, races, and backgrounds. In addition to weekly Sunday morning worship, we have ongoing activities for faith education, spiritual growth, and community mission.

Rev. Jennie Ott began her pastorate at Lake Oswego UCC in June 2010. With passions for pastoral care, spiritual formation, and nurturing community life, Jennie believes that all of us are called to serve God with our unique gifts and talents. Through worship, fellowship, and service, we listen for the voice of God in our lives and seek to discern God’s call for us as individuals and a congregation.
Originally from the East Coast, Jennie holds a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School and a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of William and Mary. Prior to LOUCC, she served as the Associate Minister at First Congregational Church of Minnesota, UCC, in Minneapolis as part of the Lilly Endowment’s Transition-into-Ministry Program. Before parish ministry, Jennie worked in fundraising, teaching, and chaplaincy.
An outdoor enthusiast, Jennie loves hiking, camping, biking, and backpacking. When indoors, she enjoys entertaining, cooking, journaling, and watching movies. Jennie lives in Portland with her wife, the Reverend Hilary Martin Himan, who is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and their young sons.

The service starts at 10:30AM every Sunday morning.
Children stay in the worship service the first 20 minutes and then go to their church school classes.
We have classes for nursery through 12th grade.
Throughout the year, we also hold special services to mark particular days in the Christian calendar (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, Pentecost) as well as other occasions such as an Earth Day service each spring, an outdoor worship service each July, a Blessing of the Animals service in August, and a Longest Night service of comfort in December. Worship also takes place during times of special significance — baptisms, weddings, memorial services — where we mark the passage of time in our life before God.

United Church of Christ History
First Congregational Church of Oswego was founded in 1888 after John C. Tullinger, owner of Oswego township, deeded two lots of land to Rev. George Atkinson, Superintendent of Congregational Missions in Oregon. The first church building was erected in 1891 at the corner of Fourth and D Streets in the First Addition neighborhood.
By 1959 the congregation had outgrown its facilities, and the current church building was erected on Country Club Road. In 1957, with the merger that created the United Church of Christ, the congregation changed its name to Lake Oswego United Church of Christ, Congregational.
Over the years, Lake Oswego UCC has remained an important institution in the local community, housing the Lake Oswego Transitional Shelter Ministry, hosting many twelve-step groups, promoting responsible land use, and providing a spiritual home to many residents. Lake Oswego UCC looks forward to continuing this legacy in the years ahead.
