Ministry of Wide Awake UCC
Wide Awake UCC is a multi-racial, multi-cultural, open and affirming, regional church.
Wide Awake UCC in Benton Harbor, Michigan, is a Christ-centered ministry with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior as the head.
We are a ministry that focuses on reaching the non-churched and the under-churched so that they may have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We seek to liberate the non-liberate, to give hope and power to the forgotten and left out.
A ministry that informs, educates, and equips God's people in a modern day world to bridge the sacred with the secular.
A biblically based, social justice ministry that will stand for, and with, those who have been treated in an unjust and unfair way.
The ministry will work to restore the middle class in the Benton Harbor region.
We will maintain this mission through advocacy, charity, and justice for humanity.
Wide Awake UCC is a ministry that is engaged in society in order to make a more integrated, loving, and caring world.
Biblical mandate: Old Testament Micah 6 1-8, New Testament Matthew 25: 31-46.

Sunday services are held at 11 AM in the second floor rooms until we outgrow that space and move into the sanctuary.

Wide Awake UCC History
First Congregational Church of Benton Harbor first met in 1866 with the building at Bellview and Pipestone built in 1890. The current English Gothic building was completed in 1928. First Congregational Church has long been a center for social justice and empowerment playing key roles in the formation of the United Church of Christ. Closing services were held in 2007. With help from other UCC churches, including Trinity UCC, Wide Awake UCC is opening in this historic spot and is poised to continue the social justice work to improve lives in Benton Harbor.
