Who we are
The Church of Scotland affirms the central teachings of Christianity. The ministry here at present is evangelical in style and content. We offer our services to all members of the parish for weddings and funerals; we also baptise children and adults who indicate understanding of Christian Faith.
Our hall facilities are used by our Girls Brigade and Boys Brigade, Stepping Stones (Sunday School), Women's Group, and Pennies Retired People's Group. Gamblers Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meet weekly and a Ladies' Fitness Class also meets twice weekly. Pinewood Special School pupils come during the week for drama and exercise classes. Functions take place as requested throughout the year. Anyone can apply for use of our halls for appropriate events.

I was born in Whitburn to parents Agnes and Alex Mackie and grew up with elder brother Kenneth and younger sister Elaine.
I went to Whitdale Primary school, Croftmalloch Primary school and finally Whitburn Academy. Every year I ran in the Gala Day sports and became the Junior and Senior Champion. I have always loved participating in sports, whether it was netball, athletics, swimming and I had a great love for volleyball playing for many years and had the great honour of representing Scotland.
On leaving school I trained to be a Physical Education Teacher at Dunfermline College but with few jobs went onto train at Moray House to be a Teacher of the Deaf.
I met my husband Lawson, also a PE teacher, through one of my friends at a party and we were married in Brucefield Church in 1985. Lawson was teaching at Alva Academy at the time and so I moved to Bridge-of-Allan to start married life.
I worked in Dawson Park School in Falkirk for a year before then becoming the Leisure Club Manager at Stakis Dunblane Hydro.
My son Alistair was born in 1988 followed by Laura in 1990. When Laura started school I then started teaching PE in Bannockburn High School and went onto become a Guidance teacher.
Having always attended church, initially at Brucefield, encouraged by my Mum and Dad who were both Elders, I was Ordained as an elder at 26 and became a Sunday school teacher. After leading a youth trip to Iona I realised that God was calling me to serve him more and so after a lot of praying, I was assessed and accepted into Ministry at the age of 40. I attended New College in Edinburgh and did my Probation in Alva Parish Church.
God then called me to King’s Park Church on the South Side of Glasgow where I had the privilege of being their Minister for eleven and half years.
During that time Alistair and his partner Charlotte has a son, Grayson in 2015 who is not almost 4 and Laura and Christoph were married last year.
So now a new chapter begins, God calling me back to my roots. Back to where my Gran, Agnes Reston would bring me to church when we stayed over on a Saturday night in Ladeside Road, to hear Rev Fletcher who was the minister at the time.
God works in mysterious way, his wonders to perform. If we just take time to stop and listen he will speak with us, guide us and encourage us down the road he has planned for each of our lives.
I wonder what exciting things God has in store for Blackburn & Seafield Church in the coming years? Watch this space!

Blackburn & Seafield Church Service Times
We hold public services of worship on Sundays at 11:00am. On the 1st Sundays of February, June and November and on Easter Sunday we celebrate Holy Communion. We hold extra services in the weeks before Christmas and Easter.

Stepping Stones.
The Blackburn And Seafield Sunday School.
Stepping Stones is Blackburn & Seafield Parish Church's Sunday club for children.
We meet in the Church hall every Sunday 10:45 - 12 noon during term time. All children will always be made very welcome.
The aim of Stepping Stones is to introduce children to important spiritual, moral and Christian lessons, whilst at the same time having fun. A lot of our lessons also have supporting craft work, and the children never fail to amaze me with their abilities and they also always add their own unique touches to all the work we do!
We also take the service in Church a few times each year and have lots of fun coming up with ideas for our Service, then practising and performing!
At the moment we have approximately 12 children who attend regularly. These children are mostly in the 3-10 age group and every one of them brings their very own talents to Stepping Stones.
I myself went to Sunday School as a child and always knew that I would send my own children when the time came. I really do believe that attending Stepping Stones helps to build a strong foundation for children, helping to equip them with the necessary spiritual and moral tools for life's journey. Parents who teach their children to love God, give them a gift that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Other information
Blackburn & Seafield Church History
As early as the 1100’s there has been evidence of the presence of a ‘Church’ in this area, and it is recorded that Blackburn became a Parish as early as 1335.
Since 1560, worship has taken place in Blackburn, eventually through the Church mission in property thought to be The Lindsay Hall.
In 1900 a union was formed by the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church and this resulted in Blackburn having its own Church, the corner stone of which was laid in 1907, the sanctuary being finally opened and dedicated in June 1908, with the Manse reaching completion in October 1908.
In 1910 Blackburn was granted the right to become a separate charge, forming its own Kirk Session and Congregational Board and Rev Kerr was called as the first Minister.
The charge became known as a Church of Scotland in 1929 and became a self supporting congregation in 1956.
Since its initial construction, the building has seen little change, almost nothing other than cosmetic internally, and minimal external alteration with the exception of the ‘New Hall’ built to replace the Lindsay Hall, which, having been gifted by Rev J. Lindsay in 1936 had served the church well.
The property is in good condition and with the recent addition of the new Manse, is indeed a credit to those who, over the years have committed themselves to its upkeep.
The Church has had a varied and complex life, like so many such establishments in small towns and villages, but during its life it has retained an enviable reputation of a strong and happy family presence within the community.
It has been served by nine Ministers, namely:
