1 JOHN 5:4 HE THAT BELIEVES IN JESUS CHRIST OVERCOMES THE WORLD BY HIS FAITH
Overcoming Faith Christian Centre was founded 40 years ago, August 1982, by Pastor Harry Dreher and his wife Laurie. Harry was hungry for teaching in the Word of God and knowledge of how the Holy Spirit moves so they packed up their two young children and went to Tulsa Oklahoma to attend Rhema Bible Training Centre.

After returning to his hometown of Prince George Harry sensed God's call to ministry on his life & to start a local church. The congregation did not have their own building until 25 years later when they felt it was time to build a church. The property had been purchased a number of years earlier at 4520 Wheeler Road, but all that existed on the property was the church manse, a small building used for mid-week program. When it was evident that no banks were going to lend OFC the money needed to build a church, the leaders sensed to go ahead anyway and believe God totally for the needed finances to start the first phase.

The pastors informed the church that there was going to be a special church service to raise money for the initial construction. At the time, the church attendance was only 50-70 people but during this church service, over $120,000 came which was exactly enough to get the church to the lockup phase. Never before had there been such a financial miracle. The Lord did it with just a faithful few sacrificially working and giving far above what would be expected.

The present building was built around three old school portables and this has continually shown us that God can take a little and turn it into a lot. The church building held its first service April 2006 and now we are a thriving, living community of believers and the building is completely paid for.

A lot has changed around us, but we remain a church that is focused on building faith, love and obedience into the lives of the people through both the powerful Word of God and the Spirit of God in our midst. We believe in miracles and in a mighty God that still heals physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Other ministries we are a part of include a medical centre in the western part of Uganda which is almost finished, and when finished we hope to send medical and evangelical teams to that part of the world. We also have other hands-on initiatives in Kenya and northern Uganda and Ukraine.

Overcoming Faith Christian Centre is a wonderful testimony to God’s faithfulness and that He is more than able to do infinitely more than we could ever imagine or dream. So come and dream with us as we extend the kingdom of God to our beautiful city of Prince George and around the world with our missionary endeavours.

Monck Baptist Church (Christian)

Sunday Morning Worship…..11am
We come together, as members of the body of Christ, to praise Almighty God. “God inhabits the praises of His people” (Psalm 22:3). We dig into the Word of God, the Bible, to discover further who we are in Christ, where we are in Christ and what we have in Christ……ultimately to be conformed to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29) by allowing the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity (Matthew 28:19; John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 13:14), to give greater revelation of God’s Word (John 14:17-26; Ephesians 1:17-23).
That revelation, by the Spirit of God, is absolutely necessary for us to learn Who God is, what He has done, is doing and will do. It is also necessary for our faith in the Lord to grow as “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). We know that faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). But it is also the “conviction of the truthfulness of God’s Word, and the reliance upon Christ for salvation” (as defined by the Greek word for faith, “pistis”). “Without faith, we cannot please God” (Hebrews 11:6)…and to that end, we chose to grow in Christ and build our faith.

History
Monck Baptist Church goes back to the late 1800s. The body of believers met in an old log school house until the church building was constructed in 1896 on one-ninth acre of donated land on the north-east corner of the intersection in Monck. The red brick building, set on a stone foundation, was originally lit with coal lamps and two wood stoves in the basement. The lighting and heating has definitely been updated since that time. The seats were purchased from another church in Arthur which was buying new ones. The choir platform was added in 1900.
For more than a century, Christians have joined together in this building to lift up the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, recognizing the need to know Him as Lord and Savior. Accepting the fact that we all sinned, falling short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:10,Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried

Holy Days to Remember: Creating Happy Memories

It’s Hanukkah time, and as is their tradition, Mike and Carrie will be serving Latkes ( potato pancakes) “to go” November 28th after church. There will be no cost, but they do ask that you text or call them at 805-264-6722 and let them know how many plates of 3 latkes you would like. If you would prefer without onions, let them know that as well. They suggest you warm them in the microwave, then top them with applesauce and sour cream for a delicious light lunch.

Register on line at www.stilwellcommunity.org, or email Pastor Rook at [email protected]. Please provide you name, phone number and email address. We'll see you there!

Decorating vehicle trunks begins at 5:00 PM.
Trunk~or~Treating begins at 6:00 PM.
Please wait until you hear a horn blast before you let your children begin the course!

Parish Bulletin Saint Mary's & Holy Name Parishes

Ash Wednesday & Lent 2021

Parish Bulletin Saint Mary's & Holy Name Parishes

Ash Wednesday & Lent 2021

Our celebration of Lent is going to look very different this year. Ash Wednesday is 17th February 2021. As things stand, we cannot celebrate public Mass or distribute ashes in the normal way. So, we must look for other ways in which we can mark the beginning of this important season of the Church's year. While the absence of ashes may be unwelcome, it is simply an external sign of our desire to bring about interior change, metanoia, conversion. There are many ways in which we can mark Ash Wednesday as special:

• A Family Prayer Service is available for use at home — I am happy to email it to those who wish a copy. It will also be posted on the Parish Facebook Page along with this bulletin.

• Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence — mark this day by abstaining from meat and sacrificing some food for the day.

• Get a copy of My Day by Day and use it during Lent, individually or as a family group, to reflect on the scriptures for each day of the season.

• For children: get a copy of the Lenten Calendar from Fr. John and help the children focus on the positive, good deeds that they are asked to perform each day.

• For children: get a copy of the Walk with Me: Activity Booklet for Lent 2021 for the children. These are available from Fr. John.

• For children: take part in our "Stations of the Cross Wall" — you can obtain one of the drawings of the Stations of the Cross from Fr. John, colour it in and return it. It will then be added to our wall. The drawings can be collected or emailed to you. To obtain one of the drawings, email [email protected].

• Tune in to our parish Facebook Page on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm for Prayer around the Cross.

• Collect a SCIAF Wee Box from Fr. John for your loose change during Lent — help SCIAF help others.

These are but a few examples of things we can do to mark our Lent. Our way of celebrating the season may not be as we would like it to be, it does not mean we cannot celebrate it. The resources mentioned above can be collected from the Parish House today, 14th February 2021, 12 - 4 pm.

Fresno Central Seventh-day Adventist Church Opening

Church reopening for in-person indoor services

Dear Fresno Central Seventh-day Adventist Church Members and Friends,

Our Church Board has voted to reopen our Church for in-person indoor services on February the 13th, of 2021. We ask you to please wear your mask, practice social distance and be patient with the temperature screening at the entrance.

For the time being we will have a limitation of 25% of our Sanctuary capacity. This means that if we reach 175 people in attendance we will open up our Fellowship Hall for overflow.

The Church Board has asked Pam Madala to coordinate the reopening process in making sure we follow the guidelines received from the Central California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

For those who wish or need to stay home, we will continue live-streaming on our YouTube Channel the main Sabbath School program at 9:30 AM and the Worship Service at 11:00 AM. The orchestra will start playing before the two services at 9:15 AM and at 10:45 AM.

Arrangements are also being made to provide in-person Sabbath School classes for our children and youth. We will do our best to still provide online services for the children and youth that cannot be present at Church.

Thank you for your cooperation in making sure that our Church glorifies the Lord Jesus Chirst in all things, while proclaiming His soon coming!

Your fellow servant,

Pastor Daniel Gouveia

2020 Advent and Christmas

Christmas Services

The Service of Lessons and Carols is a recent but now classical element of Anglican Liturgy, first instituted for Christmas Eve 1880 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Truro. This year, the Cathedral's Service of Lessons and Carols will be held virtually on our website, Facebook, and YouTube channel. The Bishop of New York will preside, and the Dean of the Cathedral will offer a reflection.

Following the format of the Cathedral’s usual Sunday and Feast Day services during the time of COVID, we celebrate a Service of the Word virtually at 11 am on Christmas Day. The Dean of the Cathedral presides, and the Bishop of New York preaches.

The Service of Lessons and Carols is a recent but now classical element of Anglican Liturgy. Carols were a part of England’s secular Christmas celebration, but were only added to church worship services in the mid-19th century with the creation of a service of nine lessons (readings) interspersed with carols.

The Cathedral's Service of Lessons and Carols will be streamed on our website, Facebook page, and YouTube channel at 4 pm on Christmas Eve, and will be viewable later in the evening across all of our online platforms. The Bishop of New York will preside, and the Dean of the Cathedral will offer a reflection.

Coming back to Church

Fr. Michael Machacek Nativity of Our Lord June 14, 2020

My dear Parishioners of Nativity of Our Lord:

I am happy to announce that our church is now open for mass. Our previous mass schedule, for both weekdays and weekends, will remain the same as before.

Please note that we have determined that in order to maintain the proper 2 metre (6 feet) distancing, and including the balcony, our church seating capacity has been reduced to 160 people., which will definitely impact our weekend masses, where we would get anywhere from 325 to over 500 people attending a Saturday evening or Sunday morning mass.

If you are coming for a weekday mass, attendance will be by a “first come, first served” basis.

However, for all weekend masses, you must register online (or by phone, if you do not have a home computer) by using the link to Eventbrite that will be available on our parish website beginning on Monday, June 22nd at 9 am. see https://myparish.org/post/5eec28e765f492006062ab35

In the guidelines of the Worshipsafe document (written by a committee of experts in the fields of health, safety and liturgy in Ontario), only one entrance will be used for entrance to the church:

For weekday masses: the west side entrance facing the green field; opened 30 minutes before the start of mass;

For weekend masses, the east side (school side) entrance; opened 45 minutes before the start of mass.

To help the members of the Welcoming Ushers, for weekday masses, please come at least 10 minutes early, and for the weekend, 15 minutes early. It will be very hard for our welcoming ushers to seat people once the mass has started without causing a distraction for all those attending, including the priest.

What to do before you come for mass?

Before you come to mass, remember this: If you have been ill or have a fever, even if it is slight; or if you have the symptoms of a cold; or if you have been recently exposed to someone who has had COVID-19, you must stay at home. Please note that Cardinal Collins has removed the Sunday obligation to attend mass for the elderly, for the sick, and for anyone who is unable to attend due to capacity concerns.

The Archdiocese of Toronto, following the advice of the medical experts who helped craft the Worshipsafe document used for our church, is asking this of parishioner wishing to attend mass:

Please take your temperature before you leave to ensure you do not have a fever.

Please bring a mask or face covering with you to wear while attending mass. If you forget one, we will happily provide you with a mask to wear. This will help to ensure the health of all those attending – remember, we wish to provide a safe worship space for all. As I have said to you many times, “We are in this together” – including our health.

While the washrooms will remain open, we ask that they only be used for urgent use. Remember how when you were a little boy or girl and the family was going somewhere for a while, one of your parents would demand that you go to the bathroom? “But Mom, I don’t have to go!” “Go – this way you won’t have to go when you get there”. Mom was right. So go beforehand.

Please do not bring any juice boxes or food to the church. Water may be brought for medicinal purposes.

To help the members of the Welcoming Ushers, for weekday masses, please come at least 10 minutes early, and for the weekend, 15 minutes early. I am afraid the days of showing up at the last minute, or for that matter, after mass has started, are gone, at least during the pandemic.

To summarize, before you come to church, go to the washroom, wash your hands, take your temperature and bring your mask, and arrive early, not late. Hand sanitizer will be made available to you as you enter the Church.

The Archdiocese of Toronto has provided a helpful video describing your preparations for coming to church and how the mass will be different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z-NirNbHVE

How will mass be different?

As mentioned before, for the Saturday evening or Sunday masses, you must register through Eventbrite in order to gain entrance to the church.

At all of the masses, when you come to the appropriate door, you will meet a member of the Welcoming team who will give instructions as you make your way into the church. In order to ensure an orderly seating of parishioners that will allow for the proper distancing, you will find green markings in the pews where you will be asked to sit. You will be directed to sit in a particular place – hence you will not be able to determine where you would like to sit as was in the past.

You will also notice that the holy water fonts placed inside the doors will remain empty.

For the weekend masses, there will be no offertory procession or collection. Your donations for the church can be given as you leave mass (at both weekend and weekday masses).

At the weekend masses, singing will be restricted just to the cantor – the rest of us will only speak, myself included. Based on the advice of the Province’s health experts, Cardinal Collins and the other Bishops of Ontario have decreed that you will be able to receive Holy Communion only on the hand. Reception of Holy Communion on the tongue will be prohibited until Cardinal Collins lifts that prohibition, following the advice of health experts. I will be providing other details of the reception of Holy Communion as the masses begin.

After mass is over, the church must be quickly emptied of parishioners in an orderly way to ensure the volunteer cleaning team members can then sanitize the church properly. Please note that as stipulated by Cardinal Collins, the church must be sanitized and cleaned after every mass or liturgical celebration.

How can I help?

You can most definitely help, trust me. We will need parishioners who will be willing to clean the church after each mass as well as volunteers who will welcome parishioners and seat them. To find out more about these positions, please see the website for the announcement Update - Volunteers Needed!

https://myparish.org/post/5ee6414aedb3590060296096

Our experience of church is going to be very different during this time of pandemic. The things we took for granted before will be different, such as our preparations for arriving, and having to wear a mask while in church. Together with all our volunteers, we will do our best to provide a safe and comfortable environment. I appeal for your patience and understanding as there undoubtedly will be a few glitches and adjustments to be made in our opening weeks, and as you get used to the new mass routine. Remember, we are in this together!!

Peace and prayers,

Fr. Michael Machacek.

Welcome Back

A ‘New Normal’ for Masses starting July 4

From Fr. Barrett:

It is with joy that I announce the re-opening of our Church.

At the core of who we are, as disciples of Christ is our love for God and love of our neighbour. Our hunger to return to our place of worship reveals our love for God. In the midst of this pandemic, we must absolutely be mindful of the safety of our neighbours.

We have so many questions at this time regarding the safe return to church and to the celebration of the Mass. Please find below a working question and answer to help guide us along the way. Is it perfect? No. We will learn along the way. I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. The health and safety of all is our first concern.

Our celebration will be simplified. I hope that our worship experience be one that is life-giving, as we break open the Word of God and are fed by the Body of Christ.

Please remember, the dispensation from Sunday Mass continues, and our Live Stream and Video will continue to bring the celebration of the Mass into your home.

May God bless each of you and those that you love. Welcome home.

Fr. Barrett Clare-Johnson
Pastor

Questions & Answers

If I am still not comfortable attending Mass, am I still dispensed from my Sunday obligation?
Yes. Bishop Kirkpatrick has indicated that those who may not be able to attend Sunday Mass for health reasons or due to capacity restrictions are dispensed from their obligation to attend. COVID-19 is still a threat to public health, and our churches are open to up to 50 people only. Those who are considered vulnerable and those who care for them should not attend.

Is it alright for me to attend Mass at Church?
Those who are vulnerable should stay at home. This includes anyone who is:
· An older adult
· At risk due to underlying medical conditions (e.g. heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, cancer)
· At risk due to a compromised immune system from a medical condition or treatment (e.g. chemotherapy)
More information can be found at https://www.canada.ca/…/vulnerable-populations-covid-19.html and include what the Public health recommends: The best way to stop the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) is by staying home and avoiding close contact with others outside of your household.

I want to attend Mass at Church. What should I do before I/we go to Church?
The reality is that COVID-19 is still a threat to public health. Doing your part to ensure the safety of all will help prevent the spread of this virus. This is why our parish is only open to allow up to 50 people.
Those who are considered vulnerable and those who care for them should not attend. Some may not be allowed entry for a specific Mass if capacity is reached before their arrival.
If you have any symptoms that might be COVID-19 related, or if you have been in contact with someone suffering from possible or confirmed COVID-19 symptoms, please remain at home and contact Public Health authorities at https://811.novascotia.ca/
Click here to take a self-assessment. https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/when-to-seek-help/

When will Masses be at our church?
Our first public Mass will be on Saturday, July 4th, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.
There will be a second public Mass on Sunday, July 5th, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.
Attendance is by reservation only: call the parish office (902-752-4822) to reserve a place for you and family members.

How many people will be able to attend Mass at our Parish?
Twenty-nine bubbles (up to 50 people) per Mass, provided you call the parish office (902-752-4822) to reserve a place for you and family members.

Do I need to wear a face mask?
It is encouraged that everyone attending wear a face mask.

Will face masks be provided at the church?
No. Please bring your own face mask.

Will I be turned away if I do not have on a face mask?
No. Face masks are simply recommended and encouraged.

Will Father be wearing a face mask and gloves?
No, he will not. He will be doing his self-assessment to ensure the safety of all.

Will hand sanitizer be available?
You will find hand sanitizer at the entrance and again upon entering the main body of the church. Please make use of it upon entry into the church. Some may wish to bring their own for use at other times.

How will you be cleaning the Church?
Pews and all touchpoints will be wiped carefully, after Masses with Germosolve or another sort of approved disinfecting solution.

Where should I enter the Church?
Only one door (the ramp/Grotto door) will be used for entry and exit. The door will be propped open to minimize touchpoints. This will allow us to count the number of attendees to ensure that we comply with the capacity to ensure the safety of all with proper distancing. Our other doors may be used for emergency purposes only.
Directional tape will guide you.

Where can I sit?
When entering the body of the church you will see clearly marked where you can and cannot sit. Signs are posted “Pew not in use.” You will notice seating is every three pews, 6 feet (2 meters) apart in the pew.

Can my family sit together?
Yes, members of an immediate family can sit together, respecting the proper distance with others in the same pew.

Will I be able to sit in my regular seat?
We request that you only sit where you find the tape markings.

Will we have hymnals?
All hymn books, missals, and other materials have been removed from the Church.

Can I sing at Mass?
Government policy is that there be no congregational singing at this time, even with your face mask on. Our directors of music or cantors may lead us in song.

Will we have our wonderful choir at Mass?
At present, our choirs will not be formally in place.

Will there be bulletins?
There will be no printed bulletins at this time. Please click the blue Sign Up button at the top of our Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/LadyofLourdesChurch) or email ([email protected]) or call (902-752-4822) the Parish Office to join our mailing list to receive our E-bulletin each Friday.

Will Mass continue to be livestreamed and videoed?
Yes! This is an important part of being a caring Roman Catholic community. We will continue to livestream and video the Sunday Mass.

Will the Sacrament of Reconciliation be offered?
The Sacrament of Reconciliation may be arranged through appointment. Please call Fr. Barrett at 902-755-3688. Or, 1-902-304-2140.

Will there be an entrance/exit procession?
At this time, only the priest will process in and out at the Mass from the sacristy.

Will there be a procession with the gifts at the time of the offertory?
No. All of the gifts of the water and wine, and the ciborium filled with the hosts will already be in the sanctuary.

How will I receive Holy Communion?
When coming down the aisle please keep 6 feet/2 meters apart. Tape on the floor will guide you in keeping proper distance apart.
Communicants are instructed to remove their masks (if wearing one) while the person ahead of you is receiving Holy Communion.
Masks should be removed by the ear loops with sanitized hands and not touching the outer mask for Communion. Lowering the mask could contaminate your hands then replacing it to the face can contaminate your face.
After the priest says, “The Body of Christ” and the communicant responds “Amen” (at a distance of two meters), the communicant then approaches the priest to receive Communion.

Can I receive Holy Communion on the tongue?
While it is the right of the communicant to receive Communion on the tongue, at this time Communion may only be received by hand. Thank you for your understanding.

Will there be Extraordinary Ministers of Communion?
At this time, only the priest will distribute Holy Communion.

Will there be Altar Servers?
At this time, there will not be altar servers in order to ensure proper distancing. (Father will miss the assistance of our altar servers but looks forward to welcoming them back to this ministry in the future)

Will the washroom be available?
The Church washroom is to be restricted to use only when necessary. No more than one person or family (living at the same address, e.g. parent and child) at a time should use the restroom. Please wash your hands.

Will there be Holy Water to bless oneself?
All Holy Water has been removed at the present time.

Will we be able to exchange the sign of peace?
While handshaking is not permitted, if we are invited by our priest to exchange a sign of peace it will be a simple bow of the head to our neighbour.

Will the collection be taken at Mass?
The collection will not be taken at the traditional time. When you are exiting the main body of the Church, you will be able to make your traditional offering. An Usher will stand by and provide security.

Can I still make my offering via E-transfer?
YES! We encourage you to continue with this method of contributing to our parish. It is easy and the way of the future.

How will we exit at the end of Mass?
At the end of Mass, please exit quietly, maintaining physical distancing. Use the tape on the carpet as a guide. Please do not congregate at the door of the Church or in the parking lot.

Are baptisms able to take place?
Yes. Baptisms will resume in the usual manner at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Only one child/family at a time while maintaining physical distancing.

Can a funeral for my loved one take place at the Church?
Yes. At this time, Funeral Masses (with the body or cremated remains present) may be celebrated in the Church with up to 50 people present.

When will the First Communion for our children take place?
We share the excitement of our young children! At the present time, we will still be holding off until we can celebrate this sacrament safely.

Will parish meetings and functions be resuming?
At the present time, all meetings and functions are on hold.

Is the parish office open?
At this time, the parish office remains closed to the public.

We are still in the midst of a pandemic, and our primary concern must be for the life and health of the whole community.

We must continue to pray for the people in our community and our world, as we begin to move forward and heal from the devastation of this pandemic.

MASS PROTOCOL

Just a few items listed as a gentle reminder of required practices that must be exercised to ensure the safety of all.

Adaptions to the Renfrew Schedule - The Province of Ontario is now allowing 30% of the capacity of the church to gather at one time for any service including Funerals and Weddings. With self-distancing our church will accommodate approximately 112 people. Father Holly is going to have a temporary Sunday morning Mass at 7 a.m. as well as his 9 a.m. Mass. Some may consider going to this 7 a.m. Mass especially during the summer to help stagger the numbers in both churches.

The Mass times h St. Francis Xavier will remain the same for the time being.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will temporarily be available in the Rectory in the hallway outside the offices before Mass on Saturday and Sunday or by appointment at other times.

Before you leave home - you are encouraged to take your temperature and not attend if it is 38 degrees Celsius (100.4) degrees Fahrenheit) or above. Those exercising a function (i.e. priest usher) must do so and record the temperature before leaving home or have their temperature taken here. While we have some masks available, those attending Mass are strongly encouraged to bring their own masks.

Arriving at church - Please use the hand sanitizer available at the entrances of the church. Pews have been blocked off to create physical distance. Households may sit in the same pew. You may sit in pews not blocked off at the spots where you see a piece of vertical masking tape. All hymn books and missalettes have been removed from the pews.

You may bring your own missatettes with you to church but please take them home with you. We will not be singing during this first phase of return. The washroom in the church should only be used in case of emergency. Please refrain from approaching other persons in their pews to visit before or after Mass.

During Mass - The collection will not be taken up in the usual manner. Parishioners are asked to drop their envelopes in the baskets near the doors of the church as they depart the church. At the time of Holy Communion you are asked to come to communion one row at a time. When forming a single line for Communion please observe physical distancing between persons as marked by the yellow indicators on the floor.

Communicants are strongly encouraged to receive Communion in the hand as a temporary measure during the pandemic as an act of charity.

At the conclusion of Mass - After the final blessing when the priest has returned to the sacristy the congregation is requested to kneel or sit to offer prayers of Thanksgiving. This will also allow each pew to leave the church separately. Please wait until the row in front of you has gotten to the vestibule near the doors of the church before starting to exit

We will resume weekly printing of the bulletin however at present the bulletin will only be published on our website and not handed out as usual. Important updates will continue to be posted on the parish Facebook page (https://m.facebookcom/sfxrenfrew). Please like our Facebook page and share so that as many people as possible are aware of it.

If you know of someone who does not have access to a computer and would like the bulletin mailed to them please contact the parish.

Please refrain from visiting outside after Mass. The measures of precaution that we exercise in the church will be of no values if we do not abide by the same principles outside of the doors of the church and in the parking lot

We need your help - Various parts of the church building especially the pews, will be sanitized after each Mass. We are looking for volunteers to sanitize the pews especially. If you are willing to be placed on a schedule to assist please email martha [email protected]

Please note that every reasonable precaution has been and will continue to be taken by the Archdiocese of Toronto to protect your health and safety. However, there can be no guarantees of complete protection as there will always be risks of contracting viral infection through large gatherings.

Please do not enter the church if you have a temperature, feel ill or have been in contact with a COVID-19 positive individual over the past two weeks.

Additional information:

• Masks or face coverings are strongly recommended.

• There will only be one entrance into the church. Please look for signs marking the proper entrance door.

REOPENING OF OUR PARISH

Letter from Fr. Kevin and the Parish Council

Thursday June 11, 2020

Greetings to all parishioners and friends of St. Francis de Sales.

We have good news to share. Next weekend we will be able to celebrate the Eucharist and receive Communion (the Real Presence of Christ)! The Province is allowing churches to open with 30 % capacity at each Mass. At St. Francis we are preparing for 2 Masses on the weekend of June 20 -21. With the need to sanitize between Masses, we will begin with 5 PM on Saturday June 20 and 9:30 AM on Sunday June 21. For the time being there will be no 11 AM Mass.

Please know that the Archbishop has extended the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass for those who are unable to attend at this time. Consequently we will continue to livestream the 9:30 Mass.

With safe practices in place we can only have 53-103 people at Mass, depending on how many come from one household. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot attend the usual Mass of your choice. The parish council has met to plan how to select who can attend Mass each week. We will begin by contacting those with emails on file, filling up the limit of the 5 PM Mass and then moving on to fill the attendance at 9:30. We ask for your patience and trust as we try to safely, fairly, and eagerly get all of you back into the church as soon as possible.

Opening up will be a bit of a struggle since we are a warm and loving parish where people enjoy being close and mingling. Sadly, we cannot do that at this time. We will have to remember social distancing in the parking lot, while entering the church and especially once you are inside. We will also have to follow different protocols for seating inside. To make sure all goes smoothly, we are asking that you:

• remain home if you do not feel well or have ANY symptom of the COVID-19 virus.
• arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before Mass starts.
• consider wearing a mask to protect others from potential contact with the virus.
• sanititize your hands on entering.
• follow the usher seating you to ensure physical distancing is observed.
• follow the protocol of seating from the front (altar) to back of the church
• follow the ushers’ directions to exit slowly with safe distancing
• allow a volunteer to hold the door open for you on the way out

Unfortunately, at present there can be no Holy Water, song books, Sunday Missals or votive candles in the church, and only the musicians are allowed to sing at this time. Similarly there is no offertory procession so please put your envelopes or donations in the boxes at the entrances to the church.

As we begin returning to the parish for Mass, please remember that our goal is to have you all here again as soon as possible, sharing the blessings of parish life. Let us pray for each other to have patience as we go along.

Preparing for a Return to Church

Friday, June 12, 2020

Dear Parishioners of St. John's,

We pray that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during this most challenging time. Know that you have been close in prayer during daily Mass. We also pray for the sick, those who have been called home to the Lord and our front-line health care and essential workers.

You may have heard that soon we will be able to re-open our churches once again. We are thankful as this time of closure has been painful and difficult. As we implement our re-opening plans, we must do so with prudence and caution, ensuring that we do everything possible to reduce the potential transmission of the virus.

Since we are not yet prepared to open the church safely, the St. John's will NOT be open this coming weekend. We have a great team of staff members working on opening as soon as it is safe.

In the next few days, we will be communicating more details with you so please check back often (or be sure that you have subscribed to receive "news" items on the website).

Here is what we can let you know now:

People will be registering to attend Mass.
The church will be marked for physical distancing.
We will have clear instructions for you when you come.
The washrooms will not be open
We ask that you wear face masks.
There will be no congregational singing.
Famiilies can sit together IF they live in the same household.
If you are feeling unwell, or are vulnerable, we ask you to stay home and be safe.

Finally, we are going require a significant number of volunteers to take on the many tasks required for re-opening. If you'd like to volunteer, please email us at [email protected].

Our joy of re-opening churches is measured with the restrictions that will be required. However, returning to sacramental life and gathering as a community is sustenance essential for our faith community during these trying days.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon – be assured that you remain in our prayers each day.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Efren and the Pastoral Team and Staff of St. John's

Coronavirus COVID-19:

Given the present situation and in light of the declaration of a state of emergency by the Ontario Government, the following measures are now in place:

Holy Mass: All celebrations of Holy Mass are cancelled, both on Sunday and weekdays. Archbishop Thomas Cardinal Collins grants the faithful dispensation from their Sunday obligation.

Perpetual Adoration: continues normally for individual prayer.

Sacrament of Reconciliation: Anyone who wishes to receive the sacrament should contact the pastor. The sacrament will not be celebrated in the confessional but rather in another location, where confidentiality may be ensured and where the distance required by the health officials can be maintained.

First Holy Communion, First Reconciliation and Confirmation: postponed for the duration of the emergency.

Meetings and events: all are cancelled at this time including CWL & KofC.

More information: Here is a link to Cardinal Collins's full message including where to watch Mass online or on TV, arrangements for other sacraments and celebrations, and the comforting note that all priests of the archdiocese will celebrate Mass every day privately for the intentions of the people. Please click here to read.

SCAM ALERT: Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people who are taking advantage of the current situation and the Archdiocese is aware that some parishioners are receiving requests, purportedly from the pastor, for gift cards. Please exercise caution and check with the parish office if you wish to verify any call, text or email.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates

Come Experience Living Water!

March 13, 2020 #2 (Pastor Jonathan’s Message)

Come Experience Living Water!

We can all get a little “off-center” at times. To be off-centered means to be not exactly in the center of something—as in “she hung the mirror off-center.” Mirrors aren’t the only thing that can be off-center. Our personal and spiritual lives can be as well.

I suspect we all feel “off-center” right now as our daily schedules, routines, and lives are disrupted by the COVID-19 virus. In these uncertain days it’s easy to become side-tracked and distracted from the essential, the crucial, the center. The season of Lent calls us to re-center. It calls us to center on the life and action of Jesus—to experience living water!

I invite you to take a few minutes of silent prayer. Allow the noise, confusion, and distractions of life to be set aside. Read John 4:7-30. Notice how Jesus enters the brokenness of the woman’s life to bring transformation. Notice how Jesus loves and cares for us not in spite of our woundedness, but because of it. Experience some living water!

COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS UPDATES

COVID-19 Response

All public gatherings for Brookside have been suspended through April 6.

At this time, it is wise to minimize public group exposure to protect those most vulnerable and to flatten the transmission curve so that our health care system is not overwhelmed. We are making this temporary change in how we operate out of love for our community.
We will still hold our services through livestreaming.

9am on Sundays, with video archive available after that on our Brookside Facebook page.

General status overview

Office Hours – As staff are primarily working from home, our typical office hours are not currently being observed. You can still contact Brookside using the form here.

Brookside Playgroup – Cancelled for March 18, March 25, and April 1.

Brookside Youth – In-person gatherings are cancelled for March 20, March 27, April 3.

Prayer Gathering, Baptism Info Session, Worship Night – These will be rescheduled.

Life Groups – Check with your group leaders.

Various other team meetings – Check with your team leaders.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health has recommended the immediate suspension of all large events and public gatherings over 250 people. We will be complying with this by using building 301 to accommodate overflow from both our services to ensure that we do not exceed 250 people.

Please be reminded that we will be cancelling all Calvary children’s ministries and programs (midweek and Sundays) for the next 3 weeks. This includes Nursery, Faithland, Clubs, Children’s Choirs, Joy Preschool, Junior High, Senior High programs and in addition, Retirees Fellowship and Five Alive will also be cancelled for the next 3 weeks.

We encourage families with children and vulnerable adults (age, health condition) to use our streaming services available through our website and Facebook.

LIVE STREAM INFO

At roughly 10 minutes to service time (8:50 and 10:50) streaming will begin on both our Facebook page and the home page of our website. It will start with rotating welcome/announcement slides.

You will be able to find the streaming as the first post on the Calvary Facebook page. You will need a Facebook account to access this feed. If you ‘like’ Calvary’s page, you will be notified of our ‘going live’. In this case all you have to do is press that notification and it will take you directly to the live video. Otherwise, you will need to search for the Calvary page and look for the live video, much like searching for the music videos each week.

If you don’t use Facebook, you can find the live video at the same time of day on our home page of the website, www.calvary.on.ca. At 10 minutes to service time, the video will be live right under the rotator banner.

Just scroll down until you find it. Again, sound will start at service time. Note: If you don’t see the video or it’s not working, just refresh your webpage until it does. If it doesn’t appear to be there, refresh inside of the 10 minutes and it should be there.

Discarded Scripture

Have you ever wanted to know how books were chosen as the canon Bible scriptures... and what books weren't chosen? Pastor Brian is leading us in a 4-week Bible study during Lent to look at such discarded Scriptures as The Gospel according to Judas, and the Shepard of Hermas.

Let us know on our Facebook page (@SecondCongregationalatWS) if you can attend!

The power of Christian prayer Empower me
Empower me to be a bold participant, rather than a timid saint in waiting; to exercise authority of honesty, rather than to defer to power or deceive to get it; to influence someone for justice, rather than impress anyone for gain; and by grace, to find treasures of joy, of friendship, of peace hidden in the fields you give me daily to plow.
