Campbellford Free Methodist Church History
As revival swept across Canada in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, churches were established at Victoria, Trent Bridge (south of Havelock), Healey Falls, Cordova Mines, Warkworth and eventually to the town of Campbellford. The Campbellford Society was considered part of the Warkworth circuit until 1909. Services were first held in a hall over the Smith and Russell Feed Store, and when this store was sold, it was suggested we hold services over the pool hall on Front Street or over Anderson’s Hardware store. A Free Methodist Church was established here in 1906 and there has continued to be a Free Methodist congregation in Campbellford for the past one hundred (114) years.
The original church building on the west side of the Trent River burned down in the early 1950’s and at that time, with no available parking and not much land, they purchased property on Ranney Street, and built a new church. There have been many changes over the years, but there has been a constant Free Methodist presence in this town for these past one hundred and fourteen years and we owe so much to those that toiled before us.
