Who we are

Welcome to St. Clement’s Parish.

We are a close knit, vibrant community of Catholics seeking God in our everyday journeys. Spreading the Word, by prayer and example, is the challenge to all Christians. “Christianity has at its central core communication of God to us, and, we to each other.

As Catholic Christians we effect this communication; this relationship, to the listening to God’s ever living word in the Scripture, celebrating His presence in the Sacraments, and living that presence in our family relationship as brothers and sisters in Christ.”

Our Mission Statement

We, the faith community of Saint Clement parish, of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, established in Dartmouth in 1955 and, truly rooted in the Catholic faith, proclaim our belief in the message and mission of Jesus Christ.

We are committed to continue the mission of Jesus Christ. We seek to live out this belief as a community of worship, of shared faith and of service where each member shares with others the gifts and talents received from God.

We seek to develop and encourage a community of faith open to responding in kind to the abundant love of God and to the needs of our parishioners and neighbouring community through our

proclamation of the Gospel and giving witness to it through our lives and our participation in the sacraments centering our lives on the Eucharist.

welcoming of all parishioners, existing and newcomers, with open arms and without judgment.

reaching out with love and compassion to those in need.

embracement of activities that build and strengthen the present and future foundations of our faith, including evangelization, education, liturgy, ecumenism and the spiritual, economic and social development of all people.

Quote of the Day
Isaiah 32:2

And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

St. Clement Parish History

Parish History

St. Clement’s is named after St. Clement, a disciple of St. Peter and the fourth pope of the Church. This name is especially appropriate because St. Clement’s was originally a mission of St. Peter’s Parish. It’s first pastor was Father William Donnelly, a thirty-eight-year old priest who supervised its construction. Early in 1958, the house adjacent to the north side of the Church was purchased for use as a rectory.

The years of self-sacrifice, overwork and worry began to affect the health of Father Donnelly. Apart from his priestly duties, he could be seen working about the landscaping of the church grounds, even using a sledge hammer to break the large rocks that dotted the field. Father Donnelly passed away on July 6, 1964 at the age of forty-seven years.

Father Gerald Mabey was appointed Parish Priest on August 21, 1964 and following him, Father Robert Walsh on July 4, 1973. In 1968 a new rectory was built and in the early eighties, an addition was made to the church itself. The original design had allowed for the future modification. Following the retirement of Father Walsh in 1990, there have been several pastors including Father Gary MacPherson, Father Edward Grant, Father Robert Floyd, Father Joseph Hattie,OMI Father John Mills, Father Gregory (Grzegorz) Wolowiec, Father Frank Pellerin, Father Gilbert Bertrand, OMI and presently, Fr. Gerald David.
