Compassion

• Acknowledging our weakness also makes us more capable of a crucial practice of the spiritual life — true compassion.
• If we cannot acknowledge the sin and the weakness of our lives, both past and present, it will be impossible for us to be compassionate. We will live isolated, lonely lives, never really connecting with other people, or God
• God became human in Jesus of Nazareth in order to show how weakness, compassion, and being with others are integral to what it means to be human.
• To be sincere and fruitful, the tears of the believer must be poured out not only because of unbelievers but for the sake of unbelievers, through genuine compassion
• The biggest sin against the poor and the hungry is perhaps lack of compassion, making believe we do not see, passing by on the other side of the street
