Who we are
Ashford Community Church Joins with Gateway
God is a personal God, and loves to communicate with his people. This comes out time and again in Scripture, e.g.“If anyone has ears to hear let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.” “Today, if you hear his voice....” etc..
Back in January of 2010 God spoke to ACC and said that he was going to do a new thing with ACC in 2010. Well at that time we just didn’t know what that might mean. It was one of those things that you put on the back boiler, and wait and see what will happen - after all God was going to do it. Well he certainly has!
At the start of the summer of 2010 God began to unfold what that new thing was. First, it was about joining a new church family, and that was NewFrontiers; Secondly, it was about merging our church with one in that family - Gateway Church (one of the interesting things was that God had been speaking to them about a group joining them!).
As a result the leaderships of both churches began to meet together to consider and pray over this. All the way through we felt God guiding and gracing us, heard his voice, and gained a very real sense that we could do more together than we could apart. As the journey developed we felt that something of God’s multi-faceted wisdom was being manifested, because what was taking place was contrary to the spirit of the age.
Having prayed and processed this through in many different ways, the leaders and church made the decision to merge with Gateway Church on the 1st January 2011. We are grateful to God for every blessing over many years going right back to our roots in South Kent Community Church and The Mission Hall at Aldington back in the 1960’s, and our connections with the Salt & Light Family of Churches.
We heard God calling us forward, and we responded...
‘How’s it gone?’ We are asked. Well praise God it’s gone extremely well, he has truly graced the integration. It’s been almost seamless. One prophetic word we had was that it would be like two rivers meeting together, creating, more life and energy as they merged and became one river - that’s been our experience! God has blessed in abundance.
The prophetic words are now beginning to be realised as we experience the reality of doing more together than we can apart. God we believe, wants us to be an Antioch Church, with the full expression of New Testament ministry and mission, and we are excited about how God is going to do this.
