United Methodist Youth Fellowship
It isn’t easy being a teen in a confused and confusing society. The United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) seeks to help young people (12-18 years) enjoy positive experiences in their church lives. By reaching out to other young people in the community, our youth share their growing faith and by working within the church to serve the community they develop a spirit of commitment. In addition to sharing and caring, fun is also a basic ingredient in the UMYF.
UMYF Youth Ministries is a place where any Youth from Jr High to High school can get involved with our church youth group to have an environment that is safe and accepting of all, while at the same time learning about God’s love for each one in fun and exciting ways. We meet twice a week during the school year on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. During our weekly meetings we start off with fun, games, and fellowship. We then spend the second part of our meetings with a short Bible lesson that is interactive and engaging. We also plan trips throughout the year for events like Mid-Winter Retreat which is a 3 day retreat full of fun, fellowship, and worship through music provided by talented youth bands and special speakers. We also plan for youth mission trips which occur during the summer. Some of the missions are local while others can be from state wide to other surrounding states. We also organize fundraisers to help with the cost of the trips in order that the youth are able to afford the trips. If you would like to be a part of this exciting youth group and are looking for a place where everybody knows your name, come and check out what God’s people have to offer you!
Men's Prayer Breakfast
The Men’s Prayer Breakfast had its beginnings with an 1980 Monday night meeting, but it has evolved into a truly interdenominational event, for all men and pastors of the community. This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 a.m. (alternately between De Leon FUMC and the First Baptist Church, De Leon) for a hearty breakfast and time of devotionals and prayer which are lead by laymen and pastors of the area churches.
Donations are taken each month, and the amount received always exceeds the cost of the meal preparation. The De Leon FUMC sends its excess donations from the breakfast to the Aldersgate Enrichment Center in Brownwood, a faith-based non-profit organization that is dedicated to enriching the lives of adults with special needs. The project was originated by the Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Church.
The First Baptist Church joined with the Methodists in hosting the Men’s Prayer Breakfast program in the late 1990s.
United Methodist Women
United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women with approximately 800,000 members whose mission is fostering spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice. The Purpose is adopted by the General Conference of The United Methodist Church as the official mission statement of United Methodist Women.
United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Out of the Purpose are four mission foci that relate to the mission initiatives and priorities of United Methodist Women.
To be a community of women
To know God
To develop a creative and supportive fellowship
To expand concepts of mission
The local group of UMW in this church consist of approximately 40 women who meet the first Wednesday of each month from September – May at 10:00 a.m. Their meetings consist of Bible study, mission study and social concerns and outreach.
Educational Opportunities
The principal education programs of the church are through Sunday School classes although there are occasional Bible studies or other focused studies by small groups.
There are Sunday School classes for virtually every age group in the church which meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. There are classes for toddler/nursery, elementary, youth and various adult classes. The Discipleship Class is principally younger adults from college age and older. The Agape Class and the Open Door Class is couples and singles of middle age and up. The New Life Class is for adults as young or old as you feel.
Occasional specially focused Bible studies are held which are from 6 -12 week studies.
Jump Start
In October 2000, the church decided to target an outreach ministry toward elementary school age children because of the need in the community. The church wanted to provide more than simply fun after-school activities, and after surveying elementary school parents, settled on an after-school program aimed at tutoring and homework.
The program is managed by an adult director and assistant director to coordinate the program and volunteers from the church to tutor the children and be sure that their homework assignments are completed. Each session, the children are served a snack furnished by the church or volunteers and have time for play. The children are supervised in play and study projects until their parents arrive to pick them up. Special events involving the parents are planned throughout the year.

First United Methodist Church of De Leon History
DeLeon FUMC is a small church located in the rural community of De Leon, Comanche County, located roughly half way between Abilene and Fort Worth.
We are part of the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Methodism is a branch of Protestant Christianity that traces its heritage back to John Wesley and his attempts to bring revival within the Church of England in the early 18th century.
Methodism holds many of the basic Protestant Christian beliefs, including the inspiration and authority of scripture for faith and practice, the doctrines of the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus, and the necessity of grace to save humans from the consequences of sin.
The Methodist Mission Statement — Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Wesley taught that Christians should strive to obtain holiness of life (called “perfect love”) with the assistance of the Holy Spirit. He established a system of small group meetings that were designed to encourage and support fellow Christians in lives of faith.
Methodism spread rapidly throughout the United States in the late 18th and early 19th centuries through itinerant preachers.
Wesley and the early Methodists were particularly concerned about inviting people to experience God’s grace and to grow in their knowledge and love of God through disciplined Christian living. They placed primary emphasis on Christian living — on putting faith and love into action.
Some of the core values of the Methodist Church are evangelism, the Wesleyan tradition, spiritual growth, mission and inclusiveness. Five areas of focus are outlined: a new generation of Christian leaders, new churches for new people in new places and transformation of existing churches, working with the poor to eliminate poverty, and eradicating killer diseases (especially HIV/AIDS and malaria).
We strive to utilize five practices in our church: radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk-taking mission and service and extravagant generosity.
“Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can.” ― John Wesley
