Gateway Church: Where Heaven and Earth Converge.

Our Mission: Why we are here

We are here to Know God, and to Make Him Known.

MAKE HIM KNOWN - We carry the presence of God - life giving, love flowing presence, of Almighty God - we are the hands of Jesus - reaching out, touching, helping ... Our Vision: What we see

A company of people who love God so much that they love people, live by biblical values and represent the Father well. Our Values: Who we are

BELONG - House of HEART - you're welcome, accepted, valued and loved. BELIEVE - House of HOPE - faith journey of discovery who God is, who we are, and His purpose for us being here. BEHAVE - House of HEALTH - make disciples - fully devoted followers of Christ who love, trust and obey Him. BECOME - House of HEROES - growing spiritual champions who help others belong. BECAUSE - it's all about Jesus.

Gateway Church History

David Cartledge and his wife Marie were 23 and 22 years old with a 9-month-old baby son when they came to Devonport. David was convinced that God had sent them from Hobart to start a Church like the one in the Book of Acts, one with a demonstration of signs and wonders. Marie was fully in, saying that had “if I have to live in a tent I will”, and they did at the Devonport Bluff Caravan Park for the first months because they couldn’t find anything else.

David was on the radio every Sunday and there were advertisements in the newspaper. They started in a hall in Devonport and despite working hard and dropping information in people’s letterboxes, no one came for the first 13 weeks.

God imparted to them a special gift of faith that enabled him to stand when under normal circumstances anyone would simply give up and quit. On the 14th week, David prayed for one lady – a Mrs Radcliffe – and she was healed from a broken neck and arthritis. Her husband sent many people to the church in gratitude – backsliders and sick people. In 1964, a rally was held at the C.W.A hall. Norman Armstrong was there to preach. The place was packed. A young lady who was crippled was healed and released. They saw many miracles of God’s power. The God of the Book of Acts was there.

David was threatened by an evil presence one night and was told to stop the work or he would be killed, but he recovered from sickness and the church grew. He was at the church for 4 years before moving on.

Gateway Church’s DNA is one of Faith, Obedience and Supernatural evidence of God at work. Pushing past the challenges to see ‘His Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.” Over the years whenever the Church has aligned with its original purpose it has experienced seasons of growth and increase.

In the late 1980s, after many years of meeting in hired or temporary venues the Church under the leadership of Pastor Barry Muller made the bold faith move to commence building the facility at 100 Don Road. There was much sacrifice and energy invested into the build and It has been a significant milestone in the life of the Church. We honour and thank all those who were obedient and forward-looking to bless the following generations.

The George St Church was planted from the Oldaker Street Christian Centre over 30 years ago and is known as the Hillcrest Christian Fellowship. The Church was moved by the Holy Spirit into the truth of the Holy Spirit and experienced a move that revitalised the Church members. They became a strong, loving and caring faith community.

In 2007 the need to come under an apostolic covering became evident. Ps Derek Morse and the Leadership had a strong relationship with Devonport AOG, discussions were held and the move was made to join with the Don Road Church, soon to become known as Gateway Church.
