Who we are

HARVEST MISSION

To passionately make disciples who are radically devoted to Christ

Matthew 28:19-20a (The Great Commission) Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you …

Luke 14:27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

HARVEST MOTIVATION

A deep love for God and a sincere love for people

Mark 12:29-31 (The Great Commandment) … you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength … You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

HARVEST VALUES

REACH UP – Worship corporately & Walk individually

Worshiping together on Sundays through praise & worship, offerings, learning from God’s Word, prayer and ordinances. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some …

Walking individually, making personal worship a way of life – through personal Bible study, prayer, praise and worship – becoming a disciple. Colossians 1:10 Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

REACH IN – Connect with significance & Serve with purpose

Connecting in life-changing relationships – sharing burdens and blessings, being accountable, learning and growing through the good and bad times. Acts 2:42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of the bread and to prayer.

Discovering where God has gifted each one and serving the body of Christ through the ministry that best expresses His gifts. Mark 10:43-44 … but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.

REACH OUT – Evangelize the lost and Disciple the saved

Evangelizing the lost on a personal level of sharing Christ with those God has placed in our lives, as well as, joining with other believers (locally and globally) to plant the seeds of the Gospel. I Corinthians 9:22 … I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some…

Being disciples and disciple-makers who love God with all their heart, soul and mind. Matthew 28:19-20a Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.

Harvest Baptist Church History

Our History

The seed for Harvest was planted in the minds of a few families in the Oswego area who saw a need for a doctrinally sound church. In the fall of 1962, these families met to discuss the possibility of planting a church in Oswego.

We had our first service as Oswego Baptist Church on July 7, 1963 at Eastview School. Rev.Thomas Corkish, associate pastor at Claim Street Baptist Church in Aurora was called as interim pastor. On January 1, 1964, Pastor Corkish became our first full-time pastor.

We purchased the Oswego Presbyterian Church and had our first meetings there in January 1966.The building was later demolished, and a new building was built in its place at the corner of Benton and Madison Streets in Oswego.

In 1992 the name was changed to Harvest Baptist Church and construction was begun on a new facility. In July 1993 we moved to our present location at the corner of Plainfield and Douglas Roads.

God has richly blessed our church with continued growth and we are excited to see what God will do next through Harvest.

Facility History

Our first building in 1995 was approximately 4,000 square feet. The stonework that is behind the cross was used to build the fireplace in the Fireside Room.

Completed in the Fall of 2000, this space was used for over a decade for our worship services. We outgrew it and for the last several years in this space, Harvest had 4 Sunday morning services – We were tight! An interesting note: While under construction, we met on Sundays at the old Traughber Junior High (now the Senior Center/YMCA) in Oswego for about 8 months. This space is now completely used by our Youth Ministries on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights and many other times throughout the week!

The Children’s Ministry Wing was occupied in the Summer of 2006. The construction of this building was an exciting event as we were still able to meet onsite and view the progress from week to week.

Before occupying both of these buildings, special prayer services were held that included everyone writing their prayers on the floor for God’s blessing on the ministries, and more importantly, the lives saved and changed here through Jesus Christ. These prayers are under the carpeting in various locations in these buildings.

The Lord has always provided through the sacrificial giving of His people for the needs at Harvest. The original building’s 7-year loan was paid off in 4 years. The old sanctuary 7-year loan was fulfilled in 4.5 years. The children’s ministry wing was paid off in May 2010, keeping the trend going.

An additional 19 acres was given to Harvest by a family in the church. This $1 million + gift brings us to a total of 31 acres! Not only this family, but others have caught the vision and are giving sacrificially! Be encouraged with God’s goodness to us, and commit to being obedient with the Lord’s resources. All praise and glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

NEW WORSHIP CENTER Opened in June 2014!

This new space seats 1200 and has a large, welcoming foyer with Don & June’s Cafe.

This space is used by many on Sunday morning to connect, taking time to build and strengthen relationships with each other (as well as, drink quality coffee, lattes, etc… at very reasonable prices).

The new Worship Center space is multi-functional and will be used in many different capacities. Each Sunday, many gather to be strengthened in their walk with the Lord or to receive God’s free gift of salvation!

We are thankful for God’s blessing with such great space for ministry in our communities and know that “to whom much is given” there is great responsibility to use it for the advancement of the kingdom of God. May it be so!

The power of Christian prayer When we stumble...
O Lord our God, Who has called us to serve You in the midst of the world's affairs, When we stumble, hold us; when we fall, lift us up. When we are hard pressed with evil, deliver us. When we turn from what is good, turn us back and bring us at last to Your glory.
