Who we are

Ilomantsin ortodoksinen kappeliseurakunta toimii Joensuun ortodoksisen seurakunnan alaisuudessa (1.1.2021 alkaen). Seurakuntakeskus Elia sijaitsee Elian kirkon vieressä (Kirkkotie 17).

Ilomantsin seurakunta on perustettu 1400-luvulla ja on Suomen vanhin sama uskoinen seurakunta ja vanhin ortodoksinen seurakunta maassamme. Seurakuntaan kuuluu Ilomantsin kunta. Alueen väestöstä 1/5 osa on ortodokseja. Seurakunnan väkiluku on n. 1070 henkeä (2011). Tsasounia = rukoushuoneita on Hattuvaarassa, Sonkajassa, Mutalahdessa ja Huhuksessa. Hattuvaaran tsasouna on 200 vuotta vanha.

Seurakuntamme on aktiivinen jumalanpalvelusyhteisö. Ydintoimintaamme ovat jumalanpalvelukset ja niiden ympärille rakentuva myönteinen ortodoksinen elämännäkemys. Seurakuntamme aktiivinen toiminta perustuu pitkälti jäsentemme vapaaehtoisuuteen.

Toimimme myös ekumeenisesti ja kaikkia tunnustuksia kunnioittaen. Kristillisyydestä nousevat luontoarvot siivittävät näkemystämme luomakunnan pyhyydestä ja sen varjelemisesta.
